I got one of the Spark flyers in my letterbox recently prompting me to visit spark.co.nz/mystreet and register my address for Fibre. Given that I also got a Vodafone one the other day and that fibre works are going on in my neighbourhood, I assumed this is targeted to streets getting fibre soon.

Anyone have any idea if this means I can assume things will be available soon and if so how soon? I've read the stories about it actually taking months and months after the work has been completed before it's possible to upgrade to fibre. I'm hoping these flyers mean something might be happening soon, but am I being too optimistic?

Yes 3 months is a reasonable expectation.

From when to when?

From getting the flyer to being able to order fibre? Or from being notified that work will commence? Or from work (appearing to) being completed?

We have those black boxes on all the poles in our street now. They don't appear to have done any major digging, so I don't know if that is still to come or not required.

I'll be pretty disappointed if I have to wait 3 months from now, but not much to do about it. I was just getting excited, I suppose.

What does the Chorus network upgrade map tell you about when fibre's expected to be deployed?

Good call. Hadn't checked that lately. We used to be mid-2016, but when we got notification that they were doing our area a few months back I assumed things would happen relatively quickly. It now says Nov-2015, so I'll take that as a good sign.

And even when the network is laid then expect at least 4-5 months before it is installed. For me the process started in the middle of July (I handed back the consent letters from my neighbour since we're on a shared drive way) and the install date will be 5 November at the earliest so don't get your hopes up too hight. The installation of fibre is a lot more painful that it needs to be.

Pretty much the same for our street, letter around may saying they'd be done mid june. Chorus map says Nov-2015 so fingers crossed.... though there are streets around me that say sept and the chorus map hasn't been updated yet so who knows.

I'm not talking about the chorus letters indicating work starting. I'm referring to targeted flyers from ISPs about Fibre arriving soon. I guess I kinda hoped that they got given a heads up and only send these out when things are nearly ready.

Ah ok. Expect A second flyer. Saying work staring soon. That second flyer was about 2-3 weeks after the first flyer.
