Wasn't sure where to post this but I'll start here.

I notice that whenever my wife calls me on her iPhone 6 on Vodafone to me on my Nexus 5 on Skinny that the voice quality is terrible. Like the original 900Mhz analogue.

Then whenever I had poor calls like that with other callers I would ask them what phone and what network and usually it would be an iPhone on Vodafone.

I get great call quality from landlines and callers on other networks so I don't think it's my phone but I would be interested to hear thoughts from other fellow GZ folks.

What I plan to do is when my wife's Vodafone credit runs out is to move her to Skinny also. That should be better voice wise.

Skinny don't have AMR-WB HD voice so Skinny to Skinny will sound worse than a VF to VF call with sub 3yr old handsets as pretty much everything these days supports AMR-WB.

Yep, if you are use to HD Voice on Vodafone - Vodafone, or 2DM - 2DM; then you will notice a drop in call quality for Spark - Spark (or Skinny - Skinny) calls. Also inter network calls can also be not so good quality depending on the codec transcoding done.
Spark have done some HD-Voice trials I think for VoLTE, but so far no one has launched VoLTE yet.

It will be good once the gateways are upgraded to go native without transcoding. There's no money in it for the carriers except for when gateways MUST be replaced, but it's such a better experience for the humans using the service they are paying for.

I find Skype and facetime calls are awesome, which I could say the same for the naff pstn.

Mind you - I use a LOT of conferencing equipment, and that needs to be changed to support wideband voice too.

So when Skinny, Spark or 2degrees, or landlines call you the quality is fine?

Just not Vodafone iPhones?

What about other phones on Vodafone?
