Hi, this is my first post here so apologies if the question has been answered (I did some research and couldn't find and answer).

I am having issues with connecting my PlayStation 4 to my router since switching to Bigpipe UFB.

Before switching, I had a bigpipe adsl plan running through an old router/modem. This worked fine, the only issues were slight speed issues that are common with adsl. There were no connection issues and the router/modem connected using an "easy" set up.

Since since switching, I purchased a brand new TP Link Archer C2 router and have had issues with both connection and speed. Ive tried for a couple of hours tonight to get a connection and the best I've got is about 300 kpbs download. A speedtest on my phone, for the same time gives a download speed of aprox 80mbps.

I've tried a number of internet fixes including, changing DNS services to Google servers, port forwarding, changing the web security on the router etc.

I contacted bigpipe support and they said they couldn't help me because I was connecting via WiFi and therefore it wasn't an ISP issue. I can't connect via Ethernet due to my home set up. I found this response to be completely unhelpful since they suggest the Archer c2 router but the support has otherwise been good.

Any tips would be really appreciated!!!

So other stuff is working fine with decent speeds? (Phone, laptop etc)
It's just the ps4?

In that case, it seems extremely likely to be not an ISP issue.

And if you are unwilling to test via Ethernet to isolate the wifi then there isn't much else that can be done about it, since wifi is by far the most likely candidate when looking at ufb with only a single device going slow.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes it's just the ps4, laptop etc are working fine and fast.

In that case, is there anything you would suggest to configure the router to work with the ps4, I feel like I've tried everything. I would happy to test with ethernet by relocating the TV/ps4 but that wouldn't be a permanent fix. The new ufb modem isn't in the most convenient place...

your signal strength being received by the PS4 may be too low to allow a decent connection

im also guessing the modem/router is in a different place to where it was when you were on ADSL

Thanks, I feel this is probably not the cause as the ps4 is less than 10 meters from the router and has a clear line of sight (no walls) to the router. I will test using ethernet tomorrow night to attempt to isolate the WiFi.

The router is in a different place and is further away now but still close as per my above message.

change the wifi channel on the router,

use something like inSSIDer on the laptop to find which is the lest congested channel.

if the modem/router is further away the signal could be weaker hence the speeds

Does connection use CG-NAT?, i.e., is there a public IP address on WAN interface??

I've tried this already using a WiFi channel scanning all and still no luck. It sounds like I will need to test the connection through ethernet, will post the result of the test tomorrow :)

@spyware not entirely sure what you mean.

My router has a plan ip address of 192.168.0.1 and a wan ip address of 100.70.48.92 (PPOE).

On ps4 connection status it used the LAN address as the default gateway. It uses the LAN address as the primary DNS server and 0.0.0.0 for the secondary.

Not really gonna be helpful, but the PS4's built in wireless is abysmal, just like the PS3 before it. If at all possible swap to Ethernet or Powerline, I reckon. Give it a go hard wired, and see if it's still giving you grief.

If you really cant for whatever reason run an Ethernet cable, invest in a HomePlug kit, lets you run Ethernet via the wall power sockets. It's not as good as a proper cat 5e/6 cable, but its beats the pants off wireless.

So the PS4 has issues with WiFi since it is a single stream 802.11N 2.4GHz chipset. Essentially this is a major limiting factor and I've personally had it connect at sub 1mbit to a router that wasn't even far away from my PS4... It is shockingly bad seeing it is supposed to be a gaming console.

I have a very good, and expensive WiFi gear providing my house with WiFi - clients on 2.4GHz can get around 120mbit however the PS4 tops out at around 5mbit. My solution was to place a router running DD-WRT on the PS4's Ethernet port and bridging that (over 5GHz) to my access point since I couldn't run an Ethernet cable (and also have RCD's in the house meaning homeplugs don't run well).

My suggestion is to connect via Ethernet. if you can't use a homeplug powerline adapters or Ethernet then use a re-purposed WiFi router (running a brand of opensource firmware or with bridging options) to do the job for you. I do have a cheap and cheerful Linksys router running Tomato (has 5GHz WiFi) I can sell you if you so desire that'll do the job fine, just flick me a PM if you're interested.

yep. best bet is to grab a 10m ethernet cable and use that.

wifi on Ps4 sucks
