Ok, I see Skinny has a good deal on their combo but but a question; when it comes to using the Spark network, it isn't hobbled in any way? anyone noticed any differences when compared to being a Spark customer?

I'm on Skinny and my wife's (currently) on Spark and we notice no difference.

I wasn't aware of any differences in service (ie, 'hobbling') other than those due to the specific plan.

TBH, in the world of pre-paid, I can't see why anyone would remain on one of the equivalent Spark plans (unless it's for the purpose of having Spotify included), given Skinny is cheaper, has carry-over minutes and data, and includes Austraia in its texts and minutes.

All good, I thought that they might divvy off a certain amount of capacity for Skinny and leave the bulk for for Spark customers aka 'premium experience'. Good to know that all customers get equal treatment.

TBH, in the world of pre-paid, I can't see why anyone would remain on one of the equivalent Spark plans (unless it's for the purpose of having Spotify included), given Skinny is cheaper, has carry-over minutes and data, and includes Austraia in its texts and minutes.

For me I've been on pay monthly but when I had a look at what Skinny had to offer, apart from 'interest free' deals that open plans give you I am better off just saving the $13 per month and going with skinny instead with the $46 plan being the most appealing of them all.

Going by how damn fast 4G is on my phone (once I realised it was available in PN now, and how to enable it on my phone!), there certainly doesn't seem to be any speed restriction!

You're missing a few features like Call Waiting, call divert and call redirection on Skinny however for the price it is a damn good deal. I switched across from Spark around a year ago and have not looked back. My phone picks up the same service, gets the same speeds on Speedtests and voice quality is the same also.

I seem to recall that Skinny had no global roaming available when they first started. Is that still the case?

They have it although in many instances (depending on Country) it is not as attractive as Spark or Vodafone.

Only hobbling I'm aware of in mobile world is Vodafone lock customers on certain plans out of 4G network. For example if one was still on prepay freebees (sims are available or at least advertised online at many major chains) you would not be able to access 4G even in coverage area.

Skinny has worked fine for me, but I find I get better value from vodafone with the friday deals with at least 2 of them during the month being a decent amount of data, letting the included gig roll over for when I dont have those deals on.

Thats what I am on for everything.

This weeks were 2000 offpeak megs for $4, which will take a way a decent chunk of my streaming usage.

There is also 300 international mins for 7 days for $2 and 200 nz mins for 7 days for $1, but I dont use that feature of my phone so are worthless to me.

Other sim has been offered

2000 off peak megs for $0.49, the 300 intl for $1 and the nz mins for $0.95, so I guess I am spotifying on the other phone this week ;)
