A few months ago I set up a Samba share drive on the USB port on the hg630b using a USB memory stick.  It worked initially, being able to create folders and save, but never really used it.

Now wanting to make use of it again, into a Windows 10 documents auto-backup drive, but can no longer access it with write access.  Also do not have write access on the original win7 PC which had write access in the past.

Since first using the USB storage, have updated the device firmware in the meantime to version V100R001C55B021, the latest on Spark support pages. Was previously Telecom branded on the admin UI.

The hg630b manual pdf only states 'enable samba' as an option, but when click on the help button on the router admin pages, it mentions other access permissions that are not accessible from the UI:

------------------------

From the help file at http://192.168.1.254/lang/help_content.html#advance_Link_9_Samba :

  • Samba

a. Introduction

You can choose to enable or disable the Samba server. When the Samba server is enabled, you can view, add, and delete the currently valid information of a Samba user.

b. Operation

Enable Samba: It is used to specify whether to enable the Samba server. To enable the Samba server, select this check box. To disable the Samba server, cancel the selection of this check box.
Add Samba User: It is used to add a Samba user.
Remove: It is used to remove the currently valid information of a Samba user.
User name: It is the name of the new Samba user.
Password: It is the login password of the new Samba user.
Directory: It is the file directory that can be operated by the new Samba user.
Right: It is the right for the new Samba user to operate the directory. The right is classified into two types: Read only and Readable and Writable.

 ----------------------

Compare to actual UI, only the 'Enable Samba' option is present:

I'm I doing anything wrong here?

I understand the router will be linux based, so trying to edit permissions using the security tab in folder properties will not work (it doesn't).

USB drive works as normal connected directly to PC.

Starting to think it is the latest router firmware that is the culprit, as that is the only environmental change that has occured.  Is this working for anyone else?

Would anyone with a hg630b confirm if it is working for them please, and with version of firmware?

Now have a hg659b and Samba share functionality is working, on the router admin pages the usernames and passwords are shown as expected.  I suspect the latest firmware on the hg630b caused the error I was experiencing.
