{Background}
So recently JohnR got me a shiny new number that I can't wait to start using, and ditch the old plagued number I used to use for years.
Well my current place doesn't get great service with Vodafone so I ported the number to Skinny in the meantime, with plans to go back to Vodafone shortly after I move.
I popped this new SIM with the new number into my iPhone 6S and started changing my number over on various things. The following won't activate/can't receive verification texts:
- iMessage/Facetime
- Instagram (called after a couple of minutes with no SMS. Able to activate with voice code.)
- Snapchat (clicked option to receive via call once SMS failed. No phone call came.)
- Co-Operative Bank (NZ)
I'm able to send and receive SMS/Phone calls to normal NZ numbers which is fine but obviously the above would be nice to have associated with my number if I could.
iMessage is the one I need the most, Apple weren't able to offer any help besides asking their engineering team to look at it sometime over the next 5 to 28 WORKING days. Part of the issue with that seems to be my phone picking up my old 0288 number still, but not sure how.
Unsure if it's related or not, but when I tried to port the number over it failed a couple of times because apparently the system was telling Skinny the number belonged to TelstraClear not Vodafone. So they would put the request though and have it rejected right away, it would only go through in the end after they spoke to someone at Vodafone on the porting team.
{today}
I rang Skinny about this tonight, and mentioned the issue. The second I mentioned iMessage to the CSRs it was instantly Apples issue. Ignoring all the other services that can't text me as well. The last girl I spoke to just before 8pm told me she would restart the systems and everything would work again as normal once I turned my phone off for 5 minutes. Well big shocker, that didn't work.
I've seen posts about sms issues after porting, most of them seemed old from what I could find. Is this a case of just waiting and seeing if my number updates in whatever systems currently point the texts to the SMS rubbish bin? Or am i sh** out of luck and should just move it to Vodafone and deal with signal issues for a bit?
I topped up yesterday too, over $50 worth in total for their big combo thing. Hopefully I get this sorted so I can use that number full time. Just sitting there wasting away now D;
