Since 2degrees bought up Snap I've noticed service levels going down considerably (blog rant here). I'd always have to phone them to get billing errors sorted (and wait on the phone for average 20mins up-to 50mins listening to the same 5 songs on their playlist, including the terrible "Pharrell Williams Happy") no matter what time I phoned. The fact I was subjected to Pharrell Williams was around 30% of the reason I moved - that, and also I am a busy person IRL and dealing with support via email is certainly easier for me.

So, ordered BigPipe on Tuesday avo since their 2months promo was taunting me (around 5pm IIRC - also asked for a VLAN'd connection), got an email on Wednesday confirming my static IP and also connection date (Thursday 6am), woke up this morning with DNS being a little strange and noticed I had a Spark IP and a myriad of emails from my external monitoring saying my connection dropped for 2mins.

A simple update to the DNS servers on my router and we were back in action.

External monitoring picked up my connection dropped at 6:00:12am, came back up with a BigPipe IP at 6:01:58am. Yes, I included seconds in there more for the hell of it.

Honestly @BigPipeNZ I am bloody impressed. I have not once had an ISP promise a time to get connected and actually succeed to do it (12secs late though, geez) especially since it took a total of 29 text messages from 2degrees all with different connection dates to get my UFB connected to start off with. Awesome job guys - keep up with the great service!

Certainly excellent service, and one that I hope's replicated when I too make the 2Degrees>BigPipe transition next month. (I've tied mine into the 2Degrees billing cycle; not giving away nearly a month of pre-paid services!).

Perhaps a little unfair, though, to compare the experience of transitioning between UFB providers and to UFB from (I assume) A/VDSL - that's surely a far more complex beast?

I too have found the wait times with the 2Degrees' call centre increasingly long and annoying - nothing like the near-instant answering I recall in Snap days. It's a pity when a great relatively small and niche company like Snap that does nearly everything right gets swallowed up.

Nice, always good to hear about positive experiences with ISPs - keep us updated. My contract with snapdegrees runs out later this year and for quite a while BigPipe has been the only other ISP I would consider changing to (though I'm pretty happy with snapdegrees performance - just good to have options)

Performance is great. I've got Smokeping graphs up here for those interested: https://murfy.nz/bigpipe-performance/
