Morepork online advert reads 'from just $498, worth $999"

A more correct advert might read: 'now from $498, no longer the ridiculous $999 we launched with"

So have Spark simply moved from scalping early adopters, or does the pricing adjustment suggest it's not been a runaway success to date?

Thoughts?

I looked at this for a bit but decided against. Company's like Spark tend to drop services like this as soon as the going gets a bit harder and you are left holding the empty can.

It's a cool looking product, just hard to justify the up front when we have a working (albeit dated) alarm.

The starter kit is a good deal (compare to any package home security self monitor solution) - but in my case I then add on 2 PIR and a smoke alarm and that adds close to $300.

If I was more flush I would do it. I think alarms are a hard sell at the best of times.

" Morepork launched in August 2015 and has been steadily building strong brand and product awareness in a very fragmented smart living and security market."

"Morepork commercially launched in August 2015 and is already seeing excellent brand recognition and customer satisfaction with a steadily growing customer uptake;"

Thats from the annual report.  Maybe it also need to share the bit from the discussion on media:

" With the market rapidly evolving and reshaping, we are moving towards a more open platform-based approach that complements our other digital services for customers, and gives us more flexibility as the market continues to change. "

Hard to really say. Most peices of tech will start at a high price then rapidly drop in the first year of its life . - look at TVs for example.
Apple seems to be largely the exception

The whole market for products such as Morepork (and alarm.com as a whole) is really an unknown one. Literally every man and his dog are trying to get into the smart home business with products and the amount of Z-wave and similar kit at CES was amazing. The biggest problem seemed to be nobody really knew who was going to buy the stuff.

I met one of the guys from alarm.com over there and spent quite a while chatting to him. They they (and everybody else) have a good product offering but convincing people they need it.

I'd never go with Morepork - Canary is much better, video streams beautifully now, it looks infinitely better, and is a whole lot cheaper.

Does one Canary offer enough coverage for the average home, or do you need multiple?

Morepork is on special for now, $198.
