A bouquet to BigPipe & Chorus/Contel for this morning's UFB upgrade.

From the scoping last week, to the install this week (took less than a two hours all up), it's been a remarkably good process, with nary a hitch or glitch. So - thanks to BigPipe and the local Chorus installers in Palmerston North (Contel, I believe). The 100/20 UFB is sweet.

Have to add to this.

Had scoping and install within a week (installed early this week).

When the Chorus guys did the scope, they ran the fibre in from the street (using existing duct for copper). Came back Tuesday and installed the ETP and ONT. I already had my router configured for Bigpipe (Netgear D7000). It went as soon as they connected it to the ONT. Happy customer here.

Bigpipe and Chorus have been great - good communication from Chorus (got a call the day before the install with the time, got a text form the installers the next morning asking if they could come early).

It's good to hear stories of good installs (of which the vast majority actually are) rather than horror stories!

With mine,

Signed up to 2degrees UFB in October, first scope done a few days later and they were useless saying they had to slot cut the driveway etc.
2nd scope done a month later.
UFB installed in January and boy were the Chorus guys incorrect (ducts just outside house): https://murfy.nz/2016/01/my-ufb-installation/
Changed to BigPipe - happened early hours of the morning seamlessly.

I'm laughing hysterically (sorry, not meant to be a poke at you sbiddle).

It seems as soon as 'multiple dwelling' and 'consent' comes into play everyone involved looses the plot- this is despite some much appreciated help from Chorus people on Geekzone and referral 'higher up'

Strangely the majority of my friends/acquaintances in Aucks who have hooked up to fibre have not had a 'straightforward' install. The main comment to me is that no-one knows what they or other contractors are doing. ie no co-ordination and the whole process is compartmentalized... we do this, then someone else will do that, then we do this when they tell us they've done their bit....

@ shortcircuit, that had sort of been my expectation, given all I had read, and the fact our house was not necessarily going to be easy (1926 construction, very little room under the house, double brick, double storied....).

So - it was pleasantly surprising to have it go so well, and on time, and with good comms. Like many things on the internet, problems get reported, but where things goes well there is less tendency to report positive experiences. I also might hope that the ISPs and Chorus (subcontractors) are improving with time and experience of installing UFB.
