So, I recently signed up for Skinny Broadband which I plan to use to help with streaming VOD services. We already have an ADSL connection but speeds aren't that great at around 7/0.8 Mbps (yes I have a master filter installed!) so that's about as good as it gets on copper, with no fibre in sight.... ever!   :-( 

The ADSL works OK for streaming most of the time (if it's the only thing using the connection) but as soon as anything else uses the net (especially uploading) the whole thing just stops!  :-(

So, I've added the Skinny Modem (Huawei B315s-608) to the network with DHCP disabled, letting the current ADSL modem/router continue to function as the DHCP server. In this way, all my devices are still on the same network, but now I can simply direct those devices that need the bandwidth (FreeviewPlus TV, Apple TV etc) to use the Skinny Modem as their gateway, while everything else continues to use the ADSL connection.

My question is, when I set these devices to a static IP, (so as I can set the Skinny Modem as the gateway) I also need to enter the DNS settings. What should I use for these? Does it matter?

As Skinny use the Spark network should it be theirs? (122.56.237.1 and 210.55.111.1) Or should I just use Google DNS or OpenDNS? I'm not (currently) using any DNS unblocking services so really just want to know if this setting will impact the performance of the connection in any way, especially for streaming (or does it just not matter?)

I did look through the firmware settings of the Skinny Modem but couldn't find the DNS settings for the 4G WAN interface, only where they would be for the Ethernet WAN interface.
