Hi, Upgraded one of my connections to VDSL yesterday.

It was an "average" ADSL line, approx 17mbps down 1mbps up.

Now with VDSL the connection gets approx 25mbps down 1.25mbps up.

The main reason for this upgrade was hoping to increase upload bandwidth. However I'm a wee bit underwhelmed. Sure it is an improvement of about 25% upload, but i was expecting a little bit more (would have been happy with 2mbps upload).

I guess this is partially a result of the 'new' 998 bandplan.

Is there anything I can do to improve this? The chorus technician installed a master splitter. The line is only shared with a fax machine that does 2 faxes a month.

Is there any chance DLM will improve the upload speed any more? (So far it seems to be getting worse, it originally sync at 1.33mbps upload, and has shrunk a wee bit)

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

you have reset your modem and router
your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap
your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

your snr is riding a tad high. see what DLM does.

Considering your likely on a broadcom card, matching a broadcom based modem might net slightly more up.

Getting quite frustrated with this.

Several times I've had what seem to be DNS issues...

New lookups cannot connect, but existing connections keep working fine. When I check the router GUI interface it shows DSL is 'down'. But existing connections keep working.

Sometimes I get a redirected to the router, showing the connection is 'connecting' then 'connected', rince repeat (quickly) over and over.

Any ideas about this behavior? It seems crazy to me. So i power cycle the router, but I know this will effect DLM. Just cant win.

That doesnt seem healthy at all.

Obviously things are connected and the modem is wrong if your still getting data to the net flowing through...

Ild consider checking if its firmware is uptodate.

Generally the spark supplied modem is reasonably solid (especially compare to the vodafone counter part out there.)

obviously powercycling isnt going to help DLM much at all, nor is it a fix to a problem at all.

If the dropouts keep up, ild speak to Spark about possibly a 48 hour line test, to get a good idea on what is going on there.

When I was in my old house, My vdsl was 17/3.5 on G.997 and it changed to about 24/2.5 on G.998

I did my best by terminating the dmark direct into a master filter, and didn't use the house wiring anymore.

Which I believe is current. I'll talk to spark now, still haven't had more than a couple of days uptime on the connection.
