WHat am I missing..... my parents bought a new laptop and Im trying to get their email setup.

Have the correct POP server, but whatever I put as the SMTP (regardless if Sparks, or my own domain) gets ignored/generic network errors.

I went through this hassle a few months back with them and cannot remember what I did to fix it.

They use Spark as their ISP.

Change the port from 25?

The SMTP host name for Yahoo! Xtra email is send.xtra.co.nz

You may also need to verify the mail client from the Yahoo web interface http://mail.yahoo.co.nz/

Confused about what you mean by "ignored/generic network errors".

I assume you have looked at the setup guides they provide here? https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-email/getstarted/email-on-computer/

Those guides were confusing.... resolved the issue - port security was the issue :)
