Hi All,

I recently upgraded from BP VDSL to BP UFB, and firstly, the process went very smoothly. the tech showed up on time on both visits, installed exactly as agreed and in good time.

Simple instructions were left with my Wife to pass on to me and everything was great from there. After the poor experiences I've seen with other installs on here and elsewhere, I'm grateful.

There was one small sticking point where I couldnt connect to the router or the internet. In the end I found my ethernet cable was just dodgy! D'oh. Noticed just after I'd sent off a support ticket too - whoops. A good reminder to rule out the simple stuff first.

Anyway, I've had it for a week or so now, and the point of my thread is that it's not very fast. Browsing is not noticeably faster than VDSL was, and speedtests give me about 25 down, 20 up.

This particular test was over Wifi, but I've been getting approximately the same results using ethernet. so far as I can see, BP only offer 100/20. I've not yet lodged a support ticket, is there anything I should be isolating here before getting in touch?

(using the BP supplied & configured router, 1 PC only, wired or wireless similar results)

1) Test only over Ethernet

2) Make sure the settings are correct on whatever router you are using (it would help if you actually told us this) and make sure QoS is turned off

3) Assuming all is set up correctly, etc., lodge a ticket.

OP said Bigpipe supplied router, which I take to be the 659.

Another thing you should try first is to unplug router and plug computer straight into ONT. Start a PPPoE client on your computer. Test speed this way.

^ ^ ^ This!

Try plugging your computer directly into the ONT.

I found I had a similar disappointment with speeds when shifting from 30/10 fibre with 2Degrees to 100/20 with Big Pipe, but through connecting to the ONT discovered the problem was with my router. Given you've gone with the BP-supplied router, I'd have thought there'd be less chance of this being a problem, but could always still be an issue...

You may find - as I did - the process of having to sort these kinds of issues out via emailed support somewhat frustrating and long-winded; luckily, once things are sorted you'll hopefully not have to be contacting them often! This lack of phone support is the biggest weakness to BP, but I guess it allows them to offer an otherwise good service at a good price.

pretty much this.  :)

(Bigpipe router can easily cope with 100/20 plan - so assuming you haven't fiddled with it should be no issues)

If you have the Bigpipe app you can check to see if any other traffic is getting in the way of your speedtest. i.e. if you are downloading, say, a windows update at the same time as running a speedtest,  then speedtest isn't going to be showing you your full line speed.
