Slinghot offering fixed mobile? Or are you confusing DSL and fixed mobile services?

I have no problem with companies that do this. 

It is a fair way to entice new customers from other companies. 

I'd imagine the 'discount' would expire at some stage.

If you are already on the $55 plan then you can switch on your website dashboard before it renews by selecting the $65 plan.  Note that your renewal date will align with the time you select the new plan.  Any remaining quota from the $55 plan will still be available until its original expiry date.

Otherwise as a new customer just select the $65 plan during signup.

@ surfisup1000, Yes it dose expire and sbiddle it is for adsl broadband not mobile data, may not exactly be apples for apples but near enough and for unlimited seems quite a good deal really especially when you compare that you don't need to fork out for a new modem and it is over a more reliable fixed line infrastructure.  In saying this I have my mobile with Skinny and like them.  I wouldn't even mind the 60GB one as that is more than ample for me.

@ NonprayingMantis, Yes Slingshot do require a contract, so what, I'd have to stay with Skinny for a year any way to make it pay off there modem.  ADSL is very fast, I've never had any issue with the speed.  I didn't pay a cent for Chorus/Visionstream to do my install and they were very easy and competent to deal with.  I did my internal wiring myself - so I am fiber proofed :)

ADSL is very fast, I've never had any issue with the speed. 

 

Hmm, not nearly as fast as my Skinny broadband! I think my last speedtest was 50Mbps down and 20Mbps up.. Not bad for an area with no inside mobile coverage..

It does all come down to the eye of the beholder...

I suppose the next Skinny ad we'll see is "Chorus is turning off its copper network.... Move to us"

You are comparing two quite different products. Customers using a fixed line connection through a Conklin may question that the fixed line is more reliable, and even a mediocre Skinny broadband connection is still likely to outdo the quickest ADSL connection for throughput rate.

Each has it's advantages and disadvantages, but really people need to consider geographical location, intended use, and what is important in terms of throughput and latency as these can vary between the 2 technologies.
