Oh hai Geekzone,

Just letting you know that we've released a new feature for the Bigpipe App: Line testing!

This is the first iteration of what's planned to be a substantive feature, among quite a few planned features. It's currently a way of either a. quickly discovering what's wrong with a connection or b. eliminating common causes for poor connection quality before you start troubleshooting. We've got a bit more info on it here and a really spiffy little video, of which we're really proud :D

If you've got the app, download the update, and get amongst it! If you don't, get the app, and get amongst it! You can get it on Google Play and iTunes. (Please take extra care to read the release notes. It's very important.)

It's a new feature, so there may be bugs. Or you may have some feature suggestions. For anything like this, there's the "Feedback" button in the User tab of the app. It goes straight to the devs - appreciate any and all input. Obviously also make sure to leave your thoughts on it in the thread.

Oh, and one more thing.

Bigpipe are also pleased to announce that they are upgrading all customers on their Elite 200/200 Fibre plan to Gigabit (1000 mbps upload and download) speeds wherever Gigabit is available, at no extra charge.

Currently, Gigabit availability has been announced for areas serviced by Enable and Ultrafast Fibre, which include Christchurch and Hamilton. The Gigabit price for all regions outside Dunedin will be the same as the current Elite plan pricing, $129 a month.

(I'm quoting from the press release here but I figure that's OK, seeing as I also wrote the press release. )

For those of you in Enable or UFF areas who are already on Elite (200/200), enjoy your new Gigabit connection! You lucky bastards.

Fantastic news on the Gigabit upgrade!

LOVE the diagnostics from the App, and the ability to submit a case and get notified when it is resolved.  Smart, leading edge customer service, guys!

Fantastic news on the Gigabit upgrade!

Is this when you're trying to log in, or run a test? There are a few bugs, as it's a brand new feature and there are way too many edge cases to allow for during testing on xDSL. Hopefully we'll be able to pin them down over the next week or so. Oddly enough, it sometimes helps to reboot the modem. If you can get in to the app, log feedback and let us know what's not working. If you can't, head to bigpipe.co.nz/contact-us and let us know that way - the care team will make sure the devs get it.

Glad you like the Gigabit news! We're looking forward to rolling that one out, gonna have us some happy customers.

Holy crap about the Gigabit upgrade - good job BigPipe! Any idea when this may come to Chorus connections (Wellington)?

Sorry - that was the video, but I see you sorted this PDQ.  Ran the test from my iphone app - successful  :)

If / as soon as Chorus announce Gigabit capability for the fibre they manage, we'll be hot on their heels with an announcement very similar to this one. :)

I dont need an app to tell me that my line is still crap :( Wish chorus would pull finger with the fiber.

Interested in whether you app was created in-house or by a third party?

If the latter, happy to share whom? Looking for good app makers for something totally unrelated, and really like this app's presentation and framework

Y'all planning on expanding? To, say, Wanganui? :)

Gigabit is available here, but no ISPs offer it yet :(

OMG. You b@stards! You've just made the three years I (and my fellow sufferers) have to wait in cable purgatory feel even longer!

In all seriousness, this is really cool, great work. I can't wait to sign up to a company and product that actually seems based in a twenty first century paradigm.

I have to say the connectivity testing on that app, impressive.

Great to see bigpipe pulling in so much innovation lately direct to power the consumer.

It's my last day at Bigpipe tomorrow.

Josh, Darklord and Flickky are still around to keep the meme dream alive.
