Hi all,

Either I'm extremely unlucky, or am doing something really stupid.

I ordered a Skinny Direct sim and when I popped it into my phone (Galaxy S7), it said "No SIM" – attempts to dial 456, enable mobile data etc were all greeted by a 'not registered on network error'.  I tried the SIM in another phone (Galaxy S4) and encountered the same issue.  Called Skinny and concluded it was a faulty SIM so they sent me a new Skinny Direct sim.  Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened.  With the new sim I also tried it on a family member's iPhone 5 – who uses Skinny, so Skinny SIM's definitely work in that phone – but still no luck.

Am I just really unlucky and received two faulty SIM's, or is something else at play here?

And before you ask – yes I inserted the SIM the right way.

Thanks in advance!  I'm pretty perplexed as to what's going on here.

Has your phone been network locked?

Where did you buy it from?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Phone isn't network locked.  Was bought from Vodafone but has been running fine on a 2degrees SIM.

My thought is that you've just hit some bad luck with possibly a bad batch.

3rd time lucky maybe? It does happen unfortunately.

Yeah that does seem to be the conclusion.  Will give them a call in the morning.
