Hi all,

I've done a search and can't find anything.

I'm setting up a new modem (as in topic title) on our existing BigPipe VDSL connection. We have a static IP, but when I come to configure the router, it asks for the subnet mask (I've tried 255.255.255.0 but feel free to suggest anything else :)

The main issue is when setting it up for Static IP, it asks for the gateway address and you can't get past that point without entering it.

In lieu of any information on the BP website, does anyone know suitable congiguration settings?

Thanks in advance,

Simon

just use auto discovery, or auto ip, it will give you your static ip, and it wont change.

I'm not sure why you're trying to enter a static IP using EoIP - this is incorrect. You should be using PPPoE.

Hmm, okay. If I set it up using DHCP, the DSL status shows connected but still can't reach the internet. I've been swapping the cables between the old modem/router and the new one to try this so presuming the VDSL connection is okay.

It would help if BigPipe had a rundown of useful settings, but it only has modem guides (which was fine when I set up one of their recommended modems).

I'm hoping the new modem/router will have better wifi performance - six external antennae vs one internal :)

May or may not. Really depends what the WiFi issues were previously.

As for generic settings they're explained on the BigPipe site and are about as simple as you can get - PPPoE with anything you want as the username and password.

Any help very gratefully received!

Thanks, Simon

I did eventually find those settings - they didn't help a whole bunch. But thanks for pointing those out

ISP supplied routers are 'PnP out of the box'.

Nothing else you buy ever can be. They have no way of knowing your required settings or being able to connect to a provisioning server to obtain the correct settings.

Hmmmm, true but with a wizard and the configuration details, I thought it would be easier than this.

 VDSL2 connection requires VLAN tagging.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.
