My dad got notice today of a rise in the price of Spark's Smart One Bill. It's now $5.99.

My dad was also under the impression that he didn't pay anything to have his cellphone charges added to the bill for his landline - at least that is what he was told by a representative from Spark a few years back. Maybe it has changed since then?

Anyway, he is considering going back to prepay because of the charge.

'Onebill' was free previously, but a charge was added.... about 5 years ago? I'm terrible at estimating time elapsed.

I had a couple of phones sitting on onebill 'just in case' but bumped them all off when I was notified a charge would be added.

For low usage check out VodafoneNZ Pay&Go Prepay plan and credit is valid for 12 months from each top-up

Any prepay in NZ is valid for 12 months. I think with the likes of Skinny you only have to put on a couple of $$ for it to be valid for 12 months.

I've used several sims with them, Bought on sale, had a gig bundled with them. Ran them out, "retired" them to the round file after that.

Also have one with no money on it in my credit card sized phone in my wallet incase I need to make a call can just top it up and use it.

Also have a couple of spares around the place since they were giving them away on one occasion.

Use as a regular sim topping up every month? Forget it. Mates on VF is the best deal at the moment, 3.5 gigs for $35 plus the bonuses, can only turn the mins and sms down to 50 I think which rolls over so will slowly build up. If you are a never user wanting a glovebox/wallet phone you can leave credit on, then the cheap VF plan seems to be the best if you are ok with $20 a year on it.

Yes, if you have no money on them they dont stop working straight away, they can still be used for emergancy calls, and incoming, not tried 0800 yet.

Not even sure what they do when they die. The phone I have it in has a hard power switch so is off all the time. Might power it on later and see if they have sent anything about it expiring since it must be close to a year now?
