hey guys
I'm a Vodafone broadband customer and i just received this email.
Haven't been with Spark for years and until today haven't received an email from them for years. Has anyone else received this unsolicited message?

This seems like a strange one..
AFAIK only reason you would have got this is IF you have made a request to move providers.
Would be interested in checking over the headers of this if this is not the case, make sure it did come from spark. DM me if you want me to do some further checks.

Any comments made are personal opinion and do not reflect directly on the position my current or past employers may have.

Yeah it is strange. I definitely haven't made any request to change providers, no enquiries or anything like that.

strange, i have not receved this for my personal spark connection.
@OP that looks legitment, obviously i'd like to raise it internally if the email is going out to old customers.

So you were previously using them as your ISP? Did you unsubscribe from future marketing emails?

I've actually never been with Spark for my broadband, I used to be with them for my mobile on account plan but i'm with Vodafone for that too.
I would say its likely to be from your previous phone account

Only kidding, Im sure it was just a innocent mistake
Although, those in charge may want to brush up on NZ antispam laws: re opt in , not opt out
Just because you have an email adress, doesnt ever mean you can send advertising to it regardless
was there an unsubscribe option in the email ?
I didnt get that email sent to my xtra email. Im feeling a bit left out now .
Although I did just get a spam from my insurance company, not sure how they even got my email adress
What concerns me as someone who works in the Spark fibre provisioning space is this phrase in the email: "We've got your request for a Spark Unlimited Broadband plan and are working to make it happen".
This implies the recipient has actually requested something from us (which, in the case of the OP, sounds incorrect). Can the OP advise if there was any sort of reference number included in the email?
I am hoping that someone has just mucked up the email templates and sent the wrong one out by mistake. Not a great look, but hopefully the cause can be identified and eliminated quickly. The last thing we'd want to be doing is sending these emails out to non-Spark customers in bulk, causing them to call in and ask what we think we are playing at.....
I'd be keen to see a full copy of the email of the OP would like to forward it to me - simon.woodley@spark.co.nz

Hi there,
i'll forward the email that i received to your email address.
The OP has forwarded a copy of the email to me, and Spark's best boffins are looking into it now to see how this email has been generated. We are hoping it's a one off keying error at this point, but should know more soon.

I have confirmed with the OP that the confirmation email he received was sent to a legitimate Spark customer, known/related to the OP, who supplied the OP's email address to Spark without the OP's knowledge.
In that regard, we are confident that there is no problem with our email data, and that the email was sent to the correct email address underthe circumstances, even if the OP was not expecting it.
We are confident there is no mass spam problem here. Thanks.
