Since spark so often dont update the xtra status page, lets post up outages here

Just so we can see if its a xtra issue, not our own device

Not a topic aimed at bitching or complaints
just FYI if your email isnt working check here in case other have the same issue at the time

oh how predictable. any other gems .
Dont take wooden nickels ? look both ways before crossing the road  ?

I started this topic for the benefit of those using xtra , and those with clients using xtra.
Xtra@ is now separate from Spark, hosted by another company . As are other email providers . Once its (finally) sorted out & moved
it shouldnt be any worse than some webhost based email or other freeware emails

dont use a search engine provided email address perhaps
happy days

Technology behind the new Spark email platform:

Spark’s new email service is built by SMX using their SMX3 cloud integration platform. SMX integrates a host of email security and third party email messaging applications. A key third party component is the Open-Xchange App Suite solution - a globally recognised product which is used by major companies including Virgin Media, Comcast and Orange.

It's a Yahoo address, like Hotmail, Gmail, etc. What if Xtra had Gmail or MS serving the nail? Same? Its no different. Although when I have seen Gmail issues they get little press.

For email providing services, yes it is. For many, hosted by Yahoo, for future many, hosted by SMX, a business class, NZ based, email provider.

When Xtra was hosted by Telecom. that was circa Aug 17 2007

Since Xtra went to be hosted by Yahoo, I use webmail on a laptop. I found the UI clean, unlike the two others that are busy, like a 1970's wallpaper. I think once since 2007 there were issues that affected me.

before i'm tagged in here, just a quick FYI, I'm not currently on the floor in any capacity that covers xtra mail, so i have no idea about up to date issues with it.

I will point out, outages are quite often limited to certain sections of the base, not everyone goes on the same server afterall..

sure , but when 2 , 3 or 4 separate email a/c's I know of all have issues at the same time.......

I only started this thread as the Spark status page is worthless . We need SOMEWHERE with some up to date outage info .
If I get a ph call from my customers with email issues, or Im setting up a new Outlook install & cant connect , then it would be nice to just check the Spark
status page . But no, its a waste of time .

SMX preform well on the SBM platform, i fully expect xtra once completely migrated will replicate this stability.

That is not to say faults dont happen, they do. but they are fixed pretty damn fast when its just SMX handling things.

Seeing some of the backend stuff that goes on with yahoos support team, i can understand why the xtra issues often are a struggle to resolve quickly..

I feel that let the migration happen, thats not an easy task, let 6 months go by, then see how it goes. The past is the past, that cannot be re written, the current is a migration, not easy, the future is what matters. Note to self, do NOT paste this in the Trump thread!

Hopefully the migration doesn't stretch out to 6 months... initial advice on the Xtramail site said they planned to be finishing up by the end of this month but I can't see that happening right now.

If yours went well and you use a not old email client, it should be seamless as the settings do not change. Upon migration, your settings are redirected from Yahoo to SMX, once SMX has your emails and contacts if you opted in. If you use webmail, then you will see I think, no new emails, so you would  know via the email sent to you days before that you are about to be migrated (I got quoted between this and that day), so you go to xtramail.co.nz and continue on. You post intimated to me that it could be a drama, but it really isn't.
