Long time spark user here, we currently have two phones on Spark's $59 open plan - unltd calls and texts, and 6gb data (*we have a bonus 1gb data + free socialiser from previous promos). Mrs only uses less than 2gb/mth and I'm under 4gb naturally, think I'd be fine with 3gb if I watch my usage.

I do use the free spotify, so would have to purchase that but considering switching both phones to SkinnyDirect $30 plan and buying spotify (or probably youtube red/Google music) instead,l would still work out much cheaper.

In terms of cellphone plans/providers, I wouldn't consider myself an early adopter, and am less likely to put up with small problems that can come from new offerings.

Has anybody who has made the switch got anything to say? The main risk I have is if there are any major problems, I will have lost the two bonuses I have with Spark if I move back.

There isn't really any downsides apart from not getting your Spotify etc

things to consider:

- no free wifi around the country

- no free spotify

if you can live with that. Make a switch :)

ah yes I hadn't considered the free wifi - not something I use but a good example of something I didn't think of. Probably my main concern is around billing, support, or any other Spark specific feature I take for granted - if nobody has anything bad to say then I'll make the switch later today.

I assume there's a reasonable app for monitoring usage? Reliable usage text or email alerts? I've had a look at it on google play but looking and using can be different things

I think on Skinny there is no call waiting, if someone cals you while you are on the phone you can't answer it, it will go to voice mail.

I recall there were some issues with not getting notified when your data is low, of course on Skinny Direct over spending is not possible

I'm with Skinny Direct and find it very good - I personally use Google Play Music so have had no need for Spotify and my data use is pretty low (around 2.4gb last month) so the $30 fits me perfectly.

Wouldn't that be pretty high in comparison to the majority of New Zealanders? wink

Well since I am in the tech industry I think this is rather low compared to some others on here ;)
