Gidday Geekzoners!

We’ve got something that we reckon will be right up your alley. Soon, we’re launching a new type of mobile plan we’re calling “Freedom” on Skinny Direct. It’ll be available for a limited time, so get in quick. You can get pre-order now at https://skinnydirect.co.nz/. The new Combo will be available to buy shortly.

For $120 a month, you’ll get:

  • Freedom NZ data (Non-stop data. After 22GB of data usage, data speeds may slow)
  • Unlimited NZ calling
  • Unlimited NZ texting

Caveats:

  • Limited time available
  • No hotspotting or tethering or T sticks.
  • Only personal use allowed, and only on a mobile device.

While we prefer to be straight-up about the fact that there are some practical limits in place, we think this should offer seriously good value to high-data mobile users.

As always, let us know what you think – we’re keen for your feedback.

This appears to be $9 cheaper than 2degrees offering.

However misses out on Australia calling and texting.

But has a more explicit upper softcap (22GB).

Good on you if you can find people crazy enough to spend this much per month.

When the 'soft cap' of 20gb is reached, is it "maybe" dropped to 3G or 2g(edge) speeds?

Will this have a followup increase in Skinny BB package allowance?

While I agree it's unlikely... I wonder why data provisioning doesn't scale like that in the real world? If 22Gb (plus!) cost $120 and the provider makes a profit on this, why can't they profit on 1/10th when providing 1/10th?

Because their bread and butter are low impact, low usage clients, and if you scale the plans as such, those low usage clients would be paying pennies, pretty much destroying their primary income.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Can you add a "normal" data plan on top of this (on an as-needed basis) if you need to tether occasionally?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

That's an interesting question that I'll discuss with the team.  Would more likely be an Add-on.
