A little bit of a tough one to remotely diagnose... My father has a Spark Galaxy S7 (not the edge) and when he is out at home he misses a bunch of calls - basically they go through to voicemail and he gets a missed call text. His phone doesn't ring.

I've got him to check all the settings on the phone via Teamviewer but can't see anything on there - they're out in Wakefield, Nelson which is covered by LTE over 700MHz so I suspect his phone is camping out on 4G and not moving back to 3G when a call comes in (or his phone is not getting the notification to). We've also done the standard troubleshooting (rebooted his phone, removed / re-inserted sim etc), I am not prepared to factory reset it since I am in Wellington and they're in Nelson and can't risk anything going wrong. They're in an excellent coverage area despite being rural.

It is a bit of a drive for them to go into the Spark store and the consultant on the phone didn't appear to know too much of what is causing it however my father is blaming the Nougat update which coincidentally got released to his phone on the same week LTE over 700MHz got activated in his area. The problem also doesn't appear to happen when Dad is in town but he thinks it still may be.

Checked he is on the latest software (there is auto updates enabled on his phone) and the problem also doesn't seem to be affecting my mother who has a Huawei P10 Lite.

Any ideas?

Put in a cheap sim card from a different provider and see if you can get him on that without a problem, to figure out if it's network related or mobile. Vodafone would be good since they wouldn't usse Spark network I think?

A little bit of a problem there with coverage on other providers :) Just confirmed that switching the phone to 3G only appears to fix it however my father uses more data than myself and so finds it horribly slow when his phone is fixed to 3G only. Would like to still use 4G over 700MHz around there since he streams music while doing farm duties.

voice on spark is only over 3g however i have found instances when 4g signal is very low the tower doesn't trigger the phone to receive the incoming call, i did have it explained to me once by one of the spark network engineers, there is no easy solution. Your current option of turning to 3g is the only choice at this time, it was suggested to me that when travelling turn lte or 4g off and when on location turn 4g back on. As spark updates the 4g network you will see less and less of this

on the subject of streaming music, spark does offer free spotify premium on selected plans, if he uses spotify he can download his playlist to listen offline, will reduce his data usage as well

Yeah I tried explaining that he could download his playlists but he doesn't :) I think it is more a miracle that he is using his phone as well as he is. He also really likes Pandora. There is full 4G over 700MHz coverage at their place (along with full 3G coverage). I didn't appear to experience the same issue when I was there but I really don't know since Skinny doesn't send "you missed a call" texts.
