Hi All,

Just to let you know I have logged a fault with Spark already and this is int he process of investigation.

I have Fibre Max and notice my download speed fluctuates wildly from 850 down to 200mbps.

I have tried various routers, various devices, various leads but nothing seems to make a difference.

The tests were run by devices hardwired to the router with minimal wireless devices in use.;

I realise minor fluctuations are possible with increased internet traffic in the evenings but would I still see such a drop. We are located approx 2-3KM from Auckland exchange, so I am keen to know if you guys have any suggestions of what I can do here whilst Chorus do their investigation - I think I have exhausted all options but open to suggestions.

Cheers all.

You're needing to provide some further information.

1) Where are you testing to?
2) Router make / model?
3) Tried another PC on Ethernet? Does it still happen?

 Hi Michael,

1) Using Ookla speed test testing to spark server

2) My usual router is an Asus RT-AC87U but have also tested with stock Huawei HG659b supplied from Spark

3) Tried testing using my HP laptop using different lan cable to router - no difference in speed.

Also curious what real world issues this is causing for you?  Are you noticing issues with real usage of your connection, or just speedtests (or other artificial tests?)

It is noticeable with most online activities and given I am paying for fibre max and getting speeds only a fraction above their lower fibre package (namely fibre 200 - when I was getting 190+ consistently) I am keen to know what is causing this.

And I have just run another speed test (with a gob load of wireless devices running now - e.g. netflix, wifey's laptop, my cellphone). And it is back up to 817 - this is very odd.

Hi there, this sounds like a bit of a rock in a hardplace case.

Can you confirm which modems you have tried?

is the device your testing on under load?

have you tried another device to test on?

Lastly if you have a ticket number i'd love to skim over where things are going just to double check all the case for you :)

1) Using Ookla speed test testing to spark server 122.58.132.50

 2) My usual router is an Asus RT-AC87U but have also tested with stock Huawei HG659b supplied from Spark

 3) Tried testing using my HP laptop using different lan cable to router - no difference in speed.

Tested the devices both under load and with little load. Ticket number: 231415473043

Apologies for covering a few things mentioned before, got distracted before posting :)

Looking over case, is exactly as i suspect, Looking into a few things on this end.

Please try testing to another speedtest server.

Also try a raw download, http://zeus.jetstream.co.nz/450M.bin - this is a older test machine, but should have a little less overhead.

Not a great deal of difference - it is now back up to 790 to 830 mbps.

Not too sure what I should be doing with the bin file.

bin file is simply for a straight download test rather than running a speedtest. Your browser should indicate the speed.

And speed is back up to 849 now - with netflix and wireless devices. I wonder if it will hold, or slow again?
