HI everyone

I've just recently got fibre max this week, but don't seem to be getting anywhere near the speeds I expected. There are 3 computers in the house, 2 connected via ethernet, one wireless and they are all hovering about the 80-95Mb limit on the tests. I'm not super computer savy but these are the things I have checked so far

- Have a guy at spark confirmed my provider UFF does have me on FibreMAX

- am using HG659b modem, so should be fast enough

- the 2 computers which are connected are through Cat5e cables, which should be fine

- The netword adapter thingee shows 1-gigabit on all 3 computers

- I have checked the motherboard of just my PC, but I'm not sure what it was telling me. Mine is one of the comupters connected via cable, motherboard shows as

Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd.
Model Z77-D3H (Intel Core i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz)
Version x.x
Chipset Vendor Intel
Chipset Model Ivy Bridge
Chipset Revision 09
Southbridge Vendor Intel
Southbridge Model Z77
Southbridge Revision 04

Spark has had me reset the ONT for 20 mins, which didn't make any difference. Today I turned both modem and ONT off for 20 mins, but still no dice. Not sure where else to go, I feel there is a bottleneck somewhere but not sure whereelse to look. :(

Sounds like you've checked all the basics - is the light on the ONT showing a gigabit connection (Orange?).

Thanks for the reply steve. Correct me if I'm wrong abut that thread seems to be about 100/20 speed, and getting only slightly less. I would have thought I would be getting more like 800-900 rather than 100. That thread implies that UFF, don't 'rate fix' and I have already checked a tech at spark (who is a friend of mine so I believe them!) and UFF have me on the correct one.

Correct, it is about 100/20, but some of the posts give good explanations of others things in the chain that can prevent you getting what you think you were going to get - especially things inside your network like Ethernet adapters etc.

You haven't mentioned how you are measuring the speeds... Speedtest.net? spark.co.nz/speedtest? , fast.com, nperf, downloading a file and measuring the time taken?

All speedtests have problems, and in MANY cases will massively under-report the performance of FibreMax plans, even on good hardware. One thing worth trying is using the windows 10 spedtest APP (NOT A BROWSER BASED SPEEDTEST) and also reporting the upstream speed as well.

You should be selecting the spark speedtest.net server closest to you manually in the app.

Cheers - N

When we first got fibre with Spark a few years about it took about a week for us to be getting the speeds that we wanted. When I got FibreMAX about a year ago it also took a few days for it to start getting 900mbps/400mbps speeds.

All the lights on the front of the ONT are green, the ONT is a Huawei Echolife(?) Could this mean that the tech didn't set it as fibre max at the cabinet?

I've tried a number of different sources for testing speed. Speedtest.net, googles speedtest, and just now tried fast.com. They all show around 95Mbs download.

The fibre was installed on Wednesday, it was explained that the max speed would take a little longer to come through, am I just being impatient?

Hi there, can you please send me your account number, phone number, name and address please.... I'll have a look and see what the network thinks your line is configured as...

Have you done a local network speed test? http://www.blog.creativform.com/how-to-measure-bandwidth-between-two-computers-on-the-same-network/ try that.

Most likely they have not applied the correct profile. Neil will be able to advise.
