Hi Bigpipe,

What's involved from going ADSL to VDSL apart from having a modem compatible?

House we are in is 3 years old does a technician is required to check wiring?

Thanks.

Bigpipe don't do splitter installations by default, so all that changes is the connection type (and settings on the modem).

Depending on your house wiring, it is more than likely wise to spring for a splitter to get the best out of your connection.

In the house next to to the landline wall plug there's a DSL box where I plugged my modem in.

Is that a spiltter?

Yep. Sounds like a Master Filter / Splitter.

But it may or may not work with VDSL. If the house is 3 years old. It probably will be a VDSL splitter, but you never know. Maybe someone here can tell you if it is a VDSL splitter.

shakedown14:

For us (switched from VF ADSL to Spark VDSL) there was basically nothing involved.

A VDSL modem from Spark arrived, the VF ADSL stopped working, unplugged the ADSL modem, plugged the VDSL one into its place and it all just worked.

Well that's how it should have been. What actually happened is that Spark were late switching on our VDSL so we had a day of no internet.

@kryptonjohn assuming it was a intact port there would have been no downtime. (That's to say it was the correct ordertype and you didn't ask vodafone to disconnect. )

Likely what happened here is that you were on vf ucll and while chorus did the changeover.. There was still a jumper in the wrong place.

Could well be, Spark didn't blame VF when I asked where my internet was...

Certainly isn't a blame thing. If anything chorus are to blame for delays as they really should know extra work is required (assuming still it was ucll to wholesale)
