I have a 4G wireless modem that is no longer used, I have a need to access the net in a remote location that has 4G but is outside of an approved 4G wireless broadband coverage area, is there anything stoping me placing a spark data Sim in the old modem and powering it up at the remote site?

You can do that but you will need to change the APN to internet and I think the router firmware is set to 4G only.
