Hi,

I’ve received a spam text from 5566, the first time in ages thankfully. I know Spark can’t work out if texts are genuine or not. My question, how do these service numbers work? Could a genuine business also use 5566 later on? I can block the number, but I don’t want to miss a real text later on.

Interestingly I also got one of these, haven't had anything from 5556 before.

5566 is a genuine number linked to Mobil according to the official short code list the telco's publish.

Vodafone and Spark users received it. Lots of them. Either from the shortcodes or the long number. Again telcos fail to prevent spam but lock people from using legitimate services like Clickatell for business under the "we do this to stop spam".

Oh well that’s interesting as I just registered my (stupid) Mobil Smiles card a couple of days ago. I was required to provide my phone number.

What did the message say? Was it related to Mobil?

Same here for my 021 number ported to 2degrees. Same number has also been signed up to Mobil Smiles. Interesting...
