Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. This is what happened to me last month... It's a bit sad really to have no Skinny internet at Christmas and New Year when family and friends visit and I think people need to be aware this can happen. I'm really upset about it but this situation is my fault.
I joined Skinny in September 2017 and purchased a router with a 100GB Broadband $52 a month 4G data plan.
I found out in November that I had to move because the house I rented was being sold.
I shifted just over 3 weeks ago and to be honest the last thing I thought about was my internet connection.
I am now at Mangakaretu Road, Waipapa, next to Kerikeri.
I plugged in my router at my new address. It connects and works fine and I used it for a week or so.
Then I remembered to call Skinny to tell them that I'd moved and they said I could not use my connection because this area is not on their coverage map.
The lady said they do send techies to add coverage spots like Mangakaretu Road but they are not told when this is going to happen and suggested I check their map from time to time. I was also informed that I was breaking their Terms and Conditions. Sorry about that so I did a quick speed test and then turned the router off. The test showed the Ping from my location to Auckland was 29mps, Download 28.27Mbps, Upload 21.61Mbps. The router had a 3 out of 3 bar connection.
I readily acknowledge that I should have checked with Skinny before I moved.
I like Skinny and I think their website is good. The lady I spoke to a couple of weeks ago was as helpful and obliging as she could be and it was good that she asked if there was anything they could do to help. On skinny.co.nz/coverage this address on 4G 1800 says 'Fair Connection' and on 4G 700 says 'Good Connection'.
I said to her the only thing she could do was see if a techie could come out here to see if they can add this site to their map.
I don't know much about fixed position 4G data connection but that's the reason I'm doing this post - first one ever!! I haven't cancelled my sub yet as I am hoping I could use it again soon.
