Was just about to ask if this was possible but just watched the vid on 3 News saying that it was but Telecom won't confirm if they will carry the iPhone. Although it has been confirmed that Vodaphone will, would it be possible to unlock the iPhone for Telecom? I'm speaking in general terms for when Telecom's new phone network is to come out in November. I wonder how much Apple NZ/Vodaphone will charge for the iPhone. Although it will be more than the US $199, I hope it's not too much more :-)

The Iphone 2g was built for EDGE and particular 850mhz in the States.

the 3g has these freq and services plus 2100mhz. There fore in theory your I Phone with Telecoms new network will have slightly better propagation in rural areas and in buildings with 850Mhz GSM and EDGE and faster internet access out side of the cities and in the cities the 3G service will be similar to Vodafones 2100MHZ 3g service.

I am sure you will be able to get the I Phone onto Telecom eventually even if Telecom dont sell it!

We have certainly had a lot of traffic in-store asking us if Telecom will have the iPhone.  The hardest part is explaining that the new network isn't up and running yet, so it's nice to know that customers do want it on Telecom!

I have information from a reasonably reliable authority that Telecom is going to sell the iPhone 3G. No dates yet, but I'd imagine it would be pretty soon after the November launch of the new network, which apparently is on schedule.

I think based on the experience in other countries that is now a given especially since Vodafone have priced the 3g Iphone so excessively.

Telecom were touted as being the first to market but Apple launched sooner than the network was available.

It will be interesting to see what they offer in the way of the plans.

I have heard there will be a number of major models available at launch and no one is saying that the iPhone wont be in the Christmas promo list.

They have all the benefits of seeing Vodafone launch the device with much fanfair and price gouging and they can see what the market says and price accordingly. Plus they have the upper hand on this model due to the EDGE component of their network as stated above. Although once the next model comes with 900MHZ UMTS that may change things but i wouldnt expect that anytime soon since it has 850MHZ UMTS which is growing in the US and Aussie and the Americas and they possibly dictate what is available on the IPhone, especially since Apple is a US based company.
