Hi Spark, I'm having issues with lag during gaming during peak hours. Literally find the nearest server and lag like crazy. Only during peak hours.

On giga fibre in Dunedin, top of the line Asus modem ethernet, ping to AKL 2ms @ 950 Mbps down and 450Mbps up.

Ping to game server 45ms (nearest server, Australia), transfer speed to server around 400Mbps.

System SIM lag is about 5ms, monitor (philips, claimed 4ms in "game mode", 16ms in non game mode).

Thing is, no issue when not peak hours.

I recall in the ADSL days there is a setting at the ISP end that allows more error but better gaming performance, is there a similar ISP setting in Fibre?

Whats the latency you're getting during peak? The numbers you listed are normal?

Interleavings isn't a thing for fibre.

Please provide further details to look into this, at the moment it's very antidocial of, at peak time i feel like i lag.

Personally i have noticed no issue on my Spark line.

I don't think you'll see a round trip time of DN->AKL->DN of less than 19ms - probably slightly higher.

My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

As mentioned, the ping you have mentioned seems OK.(Internationally, local seems to low)
I'm not sure why you've mentioned your monitor response times, they won't make any difference to your latency at different times of day.

What game are you playing? Which server?

All those numbers are unchanged peak and off peak, just the game stutters and lags.

Hi yes I think what I was asking was is there interleaving on Fibre or something similar, that answers it.

It's weird because although connection speed is exactly the same, even things like youtube and stuff is noticeably slower to load during peak hours.

I don't think much can be changed here, also probably game server performance has a bit to do with it.

THat's what speedtest.net says, whether it's BS or not I don't know. Maybe I misread the server, maybe it's a Dunedin server it's testing on.

Ok probably the speedtest was to Dunedin itself!

Interesting.

DM me your details, i'll double check peak time load. almost certainly no load issues on this end but worth the quick check :)

Ok, as long as there's nothing that can be tweaked on the ISP side, I'm fine with that. I used to recall there was, and have been informed it was called interleaving.

I think it's a combination of fibre bandwidth sharing with my neighbours + game server performance. Star Wars Battlefront 2. "Australia" server, it doesn't say much more than that. Maybe it's the poor Australian broadband that's stuffing it up.

Hi thanks, I have. I am sure it can all be explained by server side bottlenecks, external to my connection with Spark.
