Hi guys, pulling my hair out, really appreciate help.

I picked up the 120gb plan for 4g wireless broadband while my fibre is installed (chorus ballsed up the first attempt and I could be waiting another month for them to get round to fixing it).

I live in Waikanae and apparently roughly equidistant to two towers (according to OpenSignal app).

I consistently get 20-30Mbps down and 5-10Mbps up on 4g on my Motorola phone.

However this new modem from skinny is incredibly patchy in performance. Some of the time I get similar numbers to my phone; other times the service drops to 0.5-1.5 Mbps down, though can still maintain 10Mbps up, with no middle ground - it's good, then five minutes later its unusable.

That said I'm fairly sure even the top speeds In getting are relatively poor for the service I was expecting.

Any ideas please? Thanks!

Towers

Three tests within 40 mins of each other.

All three tests were run without any change to the router position. Moving the router to different locations in the house has minimal effect on the results.

Thanks John, as I mentioned last post I've done so to every point in the house without any significant improvement.

The issue then must be location and the signal off the 2 sites is the same and between sectors off the site so the modem keeps handing between the 2 sites / sectors

What can I do to counteract that?

Thanks John. Is there a particular kind I need to look for? I really am not sure what I'm looking for here. I've found two screw in antenna sockets on the back but that's all I've got to go on. Any suggestions please?

alternative option if it's available is to see about upgrading to the newer modem.

Your mobile tests will be over LTE-CA.

A newer model is not an option I'm afraid. This is the fastest model I was able to order
