Spark or vodafone?

I just saw they have a $9 plan;

"100 NZ & AU Minutes

Unlimited Texts

250 MB NZ Data

28-day plan"

How reliable is Skinny? Ive never considered them for anything but the flexi plan at voda is about $15 and isnt unlimited text and doesnt include AU minutes.

Seems to good to be true? :-)

They use Spark network and work just fine. I used the $9 plan for the kids before they got a bit older and then moved them to the $16 plan which has rollover data.

Skinny is Spark's no frills mobile offering. ie its Spark by every other name. Which makes the campaign about spending money on people with identical names as stars to save money quite laughable.

Skinny is Spark's 'budget brand' network.

I use the $9 prepay carryover combo add-on with 2degrees. It's 50 minutes (NZ and AU), 250MB and unlimited text (NZ and AU) per month where minutes and data carry over. I use very little data as I have wifi everywhere and barely make calls so is perfect for me. The add-on is available via their mobile app but for the life of me can't find it on their own website.

I went into our local 2degrees shop in March this year with an unrelated roaming query and the assistant there said that add-on had just been launched. It replaced the $10 one I was using with only 150MB data, no minutes and no rollover so was a no brainer... and $1 less! They had pads of tear off flyers advertising it so would be weird they'd withdraw it in the same year given Skinny have a near identical add-on.

I do like that about the flexi plan with vodafone that its roll over but I keep forgetting to set it up to auto pay ugggh.

That $9 plan rolling over would be insanely good value. Perhaps it just wasnt profitable for 2DG.......

So is Skinny ISP also Spark? Yet so is BigPipe...

Ive had no issues with BP in 6 years but may take a quick look at skiny,

I've been with Skinny for about 5 years and aside from a glitch with roaming I don't recall any issues.

my cellphone requirements are critical, been on skinny since day 1 that they started and i have never had a problem. never had calls missed or text lost. on prepay $16.

so in terms of reliability - no issues.

can't comment on customer service or features of service, as i have nothing to compare with. whole family on skinny.

note there is another skinny that is separate i think it's called skinny direct or something.

I have this combo from 2degrees

Personally I find it better because it has the rollover data, and its billed per calendar month. Meaning its for 28-31 days depending on the month. very helpful if you get paid monthly (i have this billed a few days after pay day). I wish skinny did per calendar month...

Just switched my kids from 2 degrees to Skinny, because of the extra 50 minutes (doesn't roll over though, but they currently use all the calls and data anyway). Another option is to look at Warehouse Mobile. It's a brand of 2 degrees (just as Skinny is a brand of Spark), and have very cheap casual rates (2¢ SMS, 4¢ per minute), and pretty good combos too.

I'll add to your choices and say if you are looking for a cheap mobile plan - consider Warehouse Mobile.

They use the 2D network

200 AU mins, unlimited texts. 500M data for $12/mth.

Or drop the data and just pay $8 for Calls and texts.

Suits low users. My daughter just gets the text pack ($4), and uses free wifi. Calls are only 4c a min and free between warehouse mobile customers (ie her mum)

EDIT: free calling may have changed - can't see it promoted on their website now

No complaints from us with the offer or anything. Suits us and no issues in the past 6 months

Free calling and SMS to WM customers is still available (clauses 31-35), you only need to have some credit available
