Currently over in Taiwan for work and activated my Skinny Roaming whilst en-route in Hong Kong.

I must admit I really like the fact that the roaming works across multiple countries which is great when you're transiting via Airports en-route etc.

In Hong Kong I had no issues connecting to a network and confirmed that the data roaming was working.

In Taiwan it took ages to get a stable connection as most of the local networks rejected a connection attempt, in the end I connected to "T Star"

Data roaming took a lot longer to work and I had to re-connect to the network multiple times before it kicked in. I also tried re-booting the phone and selecting one of the other 6 networks here in Taiwan.

Had anyone else tried Roaming in Taiwan recently and had a better experience? Personally when travelling I Iike to have active mobile data when I leave the airport rather than over an hour later.

They don't provide any guidance on preferred partner for any of their roaming countries.

Try selecting another network and if access denied then try selecting the same network about 5 times

If you travel frequently and require roaming Skinny is the wrong supplier for you.

i'd log through a fault if you are having issues with roaming.

csrs will step you through the normal tricks to get it going, but if there is an actual issue raising the case is the main thing.

the folks who look after roaming watch these pretty closely.

Because??

I've had no issues over the years roaming in OZ with Skinny or the UK.

Also their new Roaming Add Ons are perfect for the way I travel.

Which carrier would you suggest for pre-paid roaming?

Taiwan Star is currently the only carrier for Skinny customers in Taiwan. You won't be able to connect to the others.

If you are having trouble connecting give their helpdesk a call.

I been to Taiwan before, we just picked up a local SIM from Chungwha there which is the largest telco.

Skinny website doesn't list which network it roams with overseas.  Taiwan Star according to a google search is Taiwan's smallest network.

Spark website list the roaming networks as Chungwha and Taiwan Star.

Or consider one of the other NZ sim providers who have better roaming.  Port the number across so you keep the same phone number.

I find Vodafones $5 a day roaming to be absolutely fantastic while traveling

Skinny roaming looks cheaper to me. $20 per week for 200/200/1GB vs $35 per week to use something you already paid for.

Unless one needs more data. That 5GB data carried over.

Away from business, personal travel for the majority. Maybe less people interested since these days many hotels have WiFi. Longer stay on vacation people prob consider local sims.

$5 roaming still offers more more flexibility by far and can be used in far more countries and far better 4G roaming
