Was just doing some rewiring and unplugged my router and plugged it in again and now I have no internet access. I have done all the usual things like reboot the router, power cycle the optical modem and still no access. The modem shows power on , optical and lan1 is orange and connected ok to my Asus router which also shows it has internet connectivity.

of course sending an email to bigpipe isn't very satisfying because they take up to 2 hours to respond

Update on my previous post. As I was watching my router screen the connection came back at the same time I got an email from bigpipe to say received your query. I wonder if it was coincidental?

Been up and down since 11am today. Occasionally I will get a connect but it's very slow and then while it connects it drops out again. This is UFB to an Asus router.

Can't get any information from BigPipe since they have no online customer support. I have to think seriously now about finding a better ISP

Currently down and I have finally sent in a query to them but it might take 3 hours being a Sunday.

Does the router say if it has established the PPPOE connection or not? Can you ping any websites? Try flushing the DNS cache on your computer.

This is a strange one. I have been having intermittent access all afternoon with wired access working at times but wifi on the 2.4Ghz band dropping in and out. Rebooted the Asus router several times and power cycled the ONT.

Then after hours of mucking around noticed that all the lights on one of my switches were flashing continuously but I was sure nothing was on. I then took a guess that my BD player (it was giving me problems ) might be flooding the network with packets which could cause network dropouts. So disconnected it and the lights stopped flashing on the switch and full internet returned.

I think this might have been some strange combo of intermittent Internet access plus some strange things happening on my LAN. Leaving the player disconnected the moment and will try again tomorrow. What a waste of a nice sunny day :-(

OK worked it out - user error :-(

Recarpeting the house and had to completely uncable all the network for my HT. When I put it back I inadvertently patched two inputs togethert on the switch. I didn't notice this since that segment was disconnected from my router. But when I put it back, the patching must have flooded the network with packets and caused intermittent network issues. Interestingly though, the problem didn't occur straight away. I went out the day after I patched the inputs together and all had been well only to come back home and find my whole house WiFi had gone down. So there was no obvious correlation between action and consequence.

Interestingly though, I only noticed it when I saw all the lights on my switch flashing continously as if there was some device on the LAN broadcasting like crazy and only then when I started to unplug each cable did I see one cable had been patched back into another port :-)

Hard to see when all the kit is buried in a cabinet and hard to reach.
