Skinny said so. So what to do? My phone works great on "mobile data" but larger screen be nice. ( for open CPN_ live on a boat_ tough life) So have a samsung tablet I can't use. I need something for mobile data. Switch ISP or get a larger phone? Of course no 230 volt here. Any suggestions please. ?

What is stopping you from just using "Wireless Tethering" on "WiFi Hotspot" on your phone to tether internet over to the tablet?

Problem with tethering is that the tablet will assume that WiFi = unlimited data. So you will use a lot more data for updates, cloud syncing etc.

What was the exact reason given by Skinny as to why you couldn't use the SIM in your tablet?

If the boat is at a permanent mooring, could you sign up to a 4G fixed wireless service?

Ive used skinny in my samsung note tablet ages ago. Just popped it in and it worked. They might be equating tablet with ipad and assuming that because it wont work in that it wont work in anything else.

Just in case it doesn't work. I have a shared data plan on my 2 Degrees mobile phone. I have a sim card in my Ipad and has worked flawlessly.

Well what happened when you tried it? All I have had to do is stick the sim in and turn on mobile data and away it went. I dont recall having to do any APN configuration at all.

How would they know you were using a tablet instead of a phone?

I'd just plug the sim in and get on with it.

Have you tried the sim in the tablet.
Does it take a sim card?
What model is the tablet?

Long as it's not the unlimited plan you should be fine.

Likely you just need to set the APN.

I took the skinny sim card out of my phone and put it in the samsung tablet and the tablet recognises it and I go settings -mobile data- and it says its on but on the uppermost line it does not show any signal or strength. Samsung have said ring their 0800 number and they will help. Because nobody else has been able to. ( except samsung shop, and am now in Havelock)

Reset Apn, I googled and I see "enable/disable APN " is turned off. Should it be on? Thanks.

You will probably need to manually enter the APN details, then activate the APN you've just setup. I've found skinny isn't too fussy but if you have the basics set it seems to run.

Bbcode never ever works so sorry about the links edits etc. It would be incredibly helpful if there was a example given
