The new Telecom GSM EDGE / WCDMA network launches in November, so you should see new phones around then also.

As nzbnw said, new phones come with the network, not alot of selling phones that will not work with it.

effectively i wont buy a new phone knowing it could be obsolete in a few mnths time.

Are not all phones obsolete in a few months? And Telecom will not be closing their CDMA network for years to come, so buying a phone now does not have to be a bad thing.

i hear ya, however looking at the range on sale now des grab my lettuce. i have the sanyo m1 and also purcased the HTC Titan about 5 months ago.. thing is thats windows mobile 5 and the windows mobile 6.1 is out and doesnt look like telecom will upgrade the firmware for thr Titan t 6.1. so i,m thinking buying a new phone now could see me with a phone that will not be ablke to use the full benefits of the new network thats coming out. also, like the apple iphone which did qite a bit f marketing before releasng it nto market wy doesnt teleco do the same with potential new phones thatwill have features not available on current network? a the moment i,m in the dark and so is everyone else! doesnt make much marketing sense to not promote  products now ahead of release

but i think i best wait for the new network

Vodafone did not do any marketing except some posters in store. There was no campaigns on TV, radio, paper or on-line. It was all word of mouth.

You have to buy what you need now. The current network is not going anywhere for another five years. Mobile data is fast as it is, so if anything changes is going to be the range of handsets - and the coverage. I doubt initial coverage on the new network is going to be as extensive as the current one.

From my understanding there will be GSM EDGE @ 850 MHz from launch covering a similar coverage area to CDMA 1X (97% of places where kiwi's live work and play), and WCDMA 2100 MHz in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch, with coverage being expanded over time as it was with EVDO.

I'm waiting purely for the competition, and future selection of networks (swap out the sim). Until then my nokia 6585 is still going strong.

Quite possibly the hardest paragraph I've read on here for sometime...please don't be afraid to use a bit of punctuation and a spell-checker!

Vodafone to offer apple iPhone in ten markets

Media release: 06 May 2008

Vodafone today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe. Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network

i,m not asking about the network, i,m asking about new phones thatcould possibly coming out with new features that are not present now?. i mean would you buy a new phone now knowing a new network is being introduced that could possibly make a difference to your communications or services that your new phone purchased now will not have access to?

point in case..the new DVD format coming out is DVD BLURAY..would you go out and by a standard DVD player/recorder now?

what i,m asking is quite simple really. does anyone know of any new services tha COULD be coming out that the PRESENT phones sold by teecom wont have access to?

cheers

You wrote "use the full benefits of the new network thats coming out.". The iPhone per se doesn't use anything on the network that other handsets don't use already. Mobile browsing, 3G, GPS, WiFi... There are other handsets already out there on Vodafone that have these features, so using the iPhone as an example of "use the full benefits of the new network thats coming out" just doesn't work.

What services Telecom will bring is only known by Telecom. Could it be video calling which is present on WCDMA? Yes, it is possible. But apart from that what else really that Vodafone is not offering?

I think Madmax77 has a point. It's hard to understand what you are writing in these replies. For the benefit of everyone else it would pay to just pause a bit before you hit the submit button and tidy up the post.

i must say i am somewhat purturbed by your comments.
If my language and grasp of english is not as ( in your minds) as good as yours then i would rather leave you to your anal retentive attitudes.

as for the admin supporting such comments by another topic commenter that gives negative remarks to someone who has asked a simple question leaves me for one diappointed .

in such i will leave this forum and consider your callous disregard for someone and i am sure there are others who are simply trying to comprehend and seek information and knowledge.

i actually thought that what this forum was all about? helping each other not putting down others

I too got confused with all the different questions. First you were looking at getting the sanyo, then you were talking about the iphone, then you wantedto talk about wm 6.1 support for the titan.

Personally, I have done my research and it will be pretty damn hard for me to move away from windows mobile devices. The support is there on Google and plenty others. I also have made a decision to get a vodafone driven mobiles as they are 'easier' to upgrade compared to the Telecom (CDMA) as the upgrading involves a lot of tweaking around if you had looked at some of the guys who had upgraded their Okta Touch. As it has been advised many times in these forums that Telecom are bringing out new handsets when they have installed their network. And what phones are going to be available, well only they will know as each phones have to be thoroughly tested for their new network, there is nothing more frustrating than a service that doesn't work like the current mobile me service by apple, that hasn't delivered fully what it could do, that everyone is forever hopeful.

My 2c please read through the forums, it is very entertaining, and educational. Search google, and read on different people's opinion on things. I am most happy at this stage with my 3 year old jasjam, I've tweaked it to the max, and bring out the best out of a mobile that is 3 years old. I can do mobile emails, video calling, MMS, internet and the rest.

Peace!

Exactly because these forums are used by other to learn and educate is that we ask people posting here to be nice to others and post in a way that is easy to understand. Doing it in any other way just shows disrepect for others. You have just proved to us you can write when you want so why not do it all the time while here?

The hypocrisy is rife in this thread!!

freitasm... maybe you should proof read some of your own posts as they are often rife with grammatical errors also.

But maybe this should be a different thread eh ;)
