Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with Skinny as their RSP?

Are they feeding off the same network as what Bigpipe does (Digital Ventures/Spark)?

I am a little bit worried that my service is not going to be as good as what it was when I was with Bigpipe.

Edit: Also I'm not getting fantastic speeds so far

I moved from bigpipe to skinny. Can't directly compare them because I also changed services.
However, I have absolutely no complaints about either. I get totally respectable VDSL from skinny.

You appear to say that you have moved and they are your new provider. In this case, you have plenty of things to check before you can blame the provider.

You need to provide more details:

1) How did you test? It is always recommended to test via Ethernet only.
2) If on ADSL / VDSL - post your line stats from your router.

And lastly - if ADSL / VDSL then your DLM would have been reset due to the change. You need to wait for this to work its way up again (normally takes a week).

BigPipe / Skinny / Spark are all the same network.

So.
What are your modem stats?
Do you have a master filter?
How old is the house and it's phone wiring?
How long has the connection been live?

And finally, this appears to be VDSL, so don't keep restarting or powering off the modem.
The modem needs to stay on or the automatic systems will detect an unstable connection and slow you down in an attempt to make it more stable.

Hi All,

I have speed tested using the Windows machine which is plugged in via Ethernet and am now getting up around 50mbps.

This is a fibre connection, based in Kingsland Auckland.

The router unfortunately is a Huaewai stock standard that comes with the plan.

Getting around 5.7mb per second downloads

Cheers

What speed plan are you on, and what upload speed are you getting?

The Huawei routers aren't the best router out there but they are more than capable for doing what you want here.

Hi I was initially on the 30mbps (basic) connection and I have upgraded today to the 100/20 connection.

Download speeds are now at 52.0 / Upload speeds are 10.37.

Do you think data contention might be at play here?

Am guessing you are still testing via WiFi. Try via LAN cable.

The speed upgrade won't have been provisioned yet. The old 30/10 plan was changed to 50/10, so that's exactly what you're getting.

Won't be a contention issue

On Skinny you need to use their router in order to get any support - this router is also capable at routing at Gigabit speeds and is a great home router. There is nothing wrong with it.

Getting around 5.7mb per second downloads

So converting mb/sec to Mbit/sec = 45.6Mbit/sec.

Confirmed. Your line has not been fully provisioned. Wait a few more hours and if it still doesn't improve then contact Skinny directly and they'll be able to push this through. 50/10Mbit is the default Chorus plan.

Also, for any testing ensure you're testing to the closest Spark server, using Ethernet, while not doing any downloads. Other than that minor provisioning issue (which again - should be resolved soon) I don't see anything wrong with your connection.
