Does anyone have experience with keeping existing phone numbers and moving providers in the fibre/4g age of internet?

I have a parent moving house within the same town, currently with Slingshot fibre. Ideally i would like them to move to Spark wireless so we don't need to deal with a fibre installation at the new place, but i would like to keep the same landline number (they have had the number for 50 years).

Before i go chat to a support person i wonder if anyone has done something similar and had any issues or tips to help keep the same phone number?

e.g. would moving to Spark before the house move simplify things?

Thanks

you can even go through and do it via the website and not talk to anyone :)

It s in the same town, but are the two addresses connected by the same exchange? This may dictate whether a number change is required. What town is it?

Is it best to do the changeover before the move? If i don't I am unsure on the process to request Slingshot account to be closed at one address and the same phone number setup with Spark at another address?

One thing i have noticed on the Spark site is if Fibre is installed on the property i can't request Wireless Broadband (or i can't see that option). Wireless shows for other houses on the street so should be available. The existing house has fibre the new house doesn't which is why i am having some issues with changing before moving.

Town is Invercargill.

Yes. If fibre is already physically installed the site will direct you to fibre (it's already installed it's just activation)

If you really want wireless you would need to ask for that.

The process will be, you request the service. Assuming wireless, plugin modem and it will activate, at which point porting will finalize quite quickly and voice will be on Spark.

You will need to cancel the SS broadband connection.

If you DM me the moving to address i'll happily confirm connectivity for you.

it pretty much is (bollocks) now...  but back in the day, there was a number plan that was followed.

Are they allowing you to keep a number with spark when you move to a different part of the city? When a friend moved about 3-4 months ago the only way to keep the number (with copper at the new place because idiot landlords) was to move to an ISP that did it on the router, otherwise they would have had a new number keeping it on copper with spark.

OP is looking to move to wireless from fibre, not copper.
