A friend is looking at the Moto G7 to use in New Zealand. But it's currently not available here so is considering the US model. The US model has the following bands available and I'm just wondering apart from band 3 which will work will band 7 also work on Spark?

4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500), 66(1700/2100)

Thee majority of his usage will be in the Auckland city area so I am not sure whether the secondary band and availability is that much of a deal to him.

I can't say for sure about that one, but I can say the Moto G1 and Moto G5 have both worked well on both Vodafone and Spark in NZ. My wife's G5 was from Amazon.com, all the update screens are in Spanish.

You have only listed the 4G bands what about the 3G?

You really want a handset that supports band 28 700Mhz in New Zealand

So they are removing band 3? I've been using US phones for the past three years and never had poor 4G coverage on Bands 3

Band 28 provides a much better 4G coverage foot print over band 3

to context this, Many providers will likely depend on B28 for equal to 3G VoLTE coverage.

it will take time for refarming to be a realistic option, and even then won't be consistent.

Last i checked Spark actually has slightly more B28 live than B3, B28 is practically ubiquitously placed on towers with the exception of High band only cells.

Almost all the sites that do not have b28 on them are airmarked to have this installed.

I would agree B28 is a must have. Your basically shooting yourself in the foot User experience wise.

This confirms you will have connectivity. But it doesn't give a great impression of what your actual user experience would be on data services.

It's skewed towards voice right now.

Yup, makes sense for them capacitywise.

Until VoLTE is live, i don't see VF or Spark being able to refarm enough B8/B5 to make it reasonable to do (Sure single towers may be possible but then you remove possibility of adding that extra carrier if needed for voice and need to look at airgaps)
