I was looking at moving my mother to Spark and signing her up for the $30 per month Fan Pass, but now that Spark Sport is underway there’s no mention of or links to this offer anymore so I’m assuming it’s now discontinued?

Can anyone from Spark confirm this?

Fanpass was removed from the offers on the 31st.

Those who have gone on that plan and not claimed their fan pass have till the end of september to redeem them.

To be clear, Spark haven't gone out of their way to remove it due to sparksports. it was a pretty good deal for those interested.

Fanpass and Spark Sports don't overlap, so there isnt a benefit from dropping it for Spark. For Sky though, the new CEO, maybe he dropped it? Maybe Fanpass will cease before long. It was brought in to recover some revenue when people ditch Sky. The new CEO seems to have plans to fix Sky, so he wont want a cannibal product getting in the way. If and when a raft of changes are released I expect this to include Fanpass being retired

In that case it did too good a job, which is why they revamped the prices to stop people ditching Sky and going to fanpass...

Agree. Its still quite cheap if you take the 6 month option. That helps avoid subscribing for a day or week every now and then. So they still get revenue from ditchers. If and when a full app is released for Sky, in essence and full and better SkyGo that includes OD, and if process ease a little, full Sky Sports may be a better option for not much more than Fanpass, which is limited (no Popups and no OD replays)

I used it for 6 months as a Spark customer when I ditched SKY satellite. It was OK for a while but became annoying pretty quick.

  • No pop-up channels so I missed most of the sport that I was really interested in
  • No on-demand full replays. Only a limited highlights package that may, or may not turn up between 2 days 7 days after the event aired live.

Kayo FTW!

Will I be right in assuming that once my 12 months of fanpass comes up I won't be able to renew it through Spark?

I was using a VPN until DNS4Me added support. I find a DNS service more convenient than a VPN as I can use the official ATV 4 app.

Guess I'll have to switch from Fanpass IPTV back to Sky Satellite, unless Spark Sport can pick up the V8 Supercars rights off Sky.

And this is why:

It would be hard to have a wholesale price to Spark (who then discounts it for its customers) higher than the retail price.

I'm thinking that its more about a Kayo type service - and cannibalisation be damned.
