I am just wondering what kind of upload speeds to google drive do others get on Spark Fibre. I am on Fibre Max 900/400. For the most part I have been pretty ecstatic with how will Fibre MAX has been working...

But I get 918 KiB/s upload to Google Drive....and this seems pretty mehhh! Is this the typical speed one can expect to Google Drive?

918KB/s is a little on the low side, i get around 10-20MB/s

my spark VDSL connection is maxing out its upload at 30mbps or 3.6MB/s if its any consolation

Well 918 KiB/s convert to roughly...8.6 Mbit/s -- does it not?

I'd be pretty happy if I ever hit 30. Took roughly 2 days to upload my photos...

Hi,

I just did a test upload to Google Drive (GSuite), I was getting between 25MB/s - 60MB/s. Using MacOS, Safari CHCH.

I've tried with RaiDrive, FTP Mozilla Pro, RClone ...drag and drop etc etc. And I can't break 10MB/s to Google Drive/ Business. I am just not having much luck..

I am using the following DNS servers for Fibre - 122.56.27.1 and 210.55.111.1 (are these correct?).....they did not seem to make much of a difference.

Speedtest in NZ yields 260/310 Mbps to Auckland.....Test to Brisbane yields 276 Mbps....but my download is 94....hmm that seems a little weird. Ughhhh...now I am wondering why download is slower.

I should mention I am on a couple of powerbeam PB5AC Gen2.....but they are showing a throughput capacity of 400+/400+ Mbps up and download.

@Azzura Your speedtests are pretty slow for a Gigabit plan which makes me think you're doing this over WiFi, on a mobile device. Try on a laptop / PC connected via Ethernet instead and see how you get on.

Pls See my above edit....and the tests I refer to are over hardwired with a gaming comp. Just for fun I did do a test with phone over 5G wifi and I get 163/312 Mbps

OH.

Can you try at the ONT end?

Edgerouter Pro 8 with Enable hwnat and ipsec offloading.

I am pretty confidant Fibre Max is most likely around the 900/400 speeds. But I am maxing out what the PowerBeams are capable of at around 300+ Mbps up and 300+ down (when done on speedtest).

I will have to give it a try at the ONT. Perhaps I will drive into town tomorrow with my gaming laptop and give it a go.

When you consider I get 312 Mbps uploads when testing in the "downunder" region. I am just trying to figure out why the slow speeds to Google Drive at around 10 Mpbs (guessing it is in the USA?).

I get 20Mbps up for a large single upload on my 20Mbps fiber plan, 2degrees.

What i suspect your seeing is tcp latency delay issues causing your upstream to settle down lower than expected.

That's why i recommend a test directly connected.

on a nanobeam at 400/400 your speedtests are about right.

The latency between the beams is show at 0ms and speedtest shows a latency of 4 to 5 ms to Auckland test servers<---- That's not bad is it?

I will try to get in and do one at the ONT.

Other than this small hiccup with google drive.....the powerbeams have been just as good as a wire imo. I am thinking of upgrading them soon....

periodic jitter or packetloss is where it will add up.

Totally depends on what servers you are uploading etc (if its in USA or EU, the delay product adds up)

I'd also do a sanity check and check your google drive network upload settings.

For a (cheaper) wireless link that is actually pretty darn good and also kudos with sorting out something like that yourself (to get faster internet). You must be generally thrilled.

But yes, I agree with what @hio77 said above. I've found that even adding something like a UniFi access point in mesh mode can affect some services in some setup situations. Something else you could potentially try is a VPN like NordVPN - this won't prove if Spark are the issue, but could be a workaround if it is in-fact the wireless link causing this.

Do let us know what you find on the ONT end - also check to ensure you've got the correct MTU settings on the router end. I am not great with this but if your router is on the other end of the wireless bridge perhaps using a lower MTU may suit better instead of using a MTU of 1500. There are other people on this forum far more qualified to discuss this than me.
