HI all,

I have a Huawei HG659b on a Spark fibre 200 connection.  It is unable to maintain wifi for android devices.  When I restart the router the devices all work correctly for a while and then stop.

This is an issue with both old and new devices.

Any ideas on how to fix?  Spark want to sell me a new router but I am not keen.

Ta

How many wifi devices do you have connected, and how many overall (including wired)

That's a really odd fault description. Do any of the other wireless devices have an issue, or just the Android ones?

Is the device a Spark supplied HG659b? Has it exhibited this problem since you got it? Have you tried a factory reset? Have you tried turning off the repeater?

Cheers - N

Just android devices have the issue.  HG659b is supplied by Spark.  It has had this problem for a few months.

I have tried a factory reset but that hasn't helped.

I have turned off the repeater now and will see if the problem reoccurs.

When you see the issue does the wifi show up with an explanation mark?

Do you have your device set to hand over to mobile network when wifi is poor or unavailable (this is default in andriod since like... 7.1 if i recall right)

i think i was seeing a similar problem at my parents place in the weekend, every no and then when connected to the hg659 it would come up with the exclamation mark or just disconnect then reconnect.

There was probably 20 devices on their network, and they are running the latest firmware.

Yes to both

If that's the case, sounds like an issue i've been trying to track on my own network.

thus far, I've identified it to be particular andriod devices when on the cell edge and getting wireless roam commands sent.

I dont have a hg659b at all in my network though so not totally identical and goes to further confirm my argument for it being relating to the device itself rather than network side.

Mine use to have issue on wifi , I turned off 5G and it never faulted. I think it was due to overheated, ended up buying a Asus router and never looked back.

It would be nice if it was an explanation mark. Then it would tell you exactly what the problem was.

Counter-intuitively - does it occur for a device if that Android setting is off?

Yes.

I have changed the router dns server to 1.1.1.1 and turned off the repeater.  It has been behaving since but I am now away for 5 days.  I will check when I get back but my daughter says it is still working.
