Today I recieved a call from some guy at Telecom trying to give me a free ADSL2 capable modem. I told him that I already have one and enquired more about ADSL2. He told me that ADSL2 is in my area and that being on the Xtra unlimited plan I am entitled to an upgrade to ADSL2 and that all I had to do was call the helpdesk to get them to set it up. So I called the helpdesk and they tell me something completely different and that I have to upgrade to some other plans if I want ADSL2 speeds.
So can any of you guys confirm which of these is true if any?

Why not just check out on the plans on the Telecom website

When you say the 'Xtra unlimited plan' are you talking about Go Large? From memory I seem to remember Go Large having an upload speed cap of 128kbps, which means it does not take advantage of ADSL2+ speeds. 128kbps upload effectively caps the download speed at 4.2Mbps.

The Go-Large plan is a fullspeed down, 128kbps upload broadband connection (its also managed traffic too). The 128kbps upload is a limiting factor, it won't allow you to achieve the maximum speeds on DSL1, yet alone DSL2+. You may benefit from the DSL2+ technology, but possibly in terms of pure speed.

A fullspeed-fullspeed connection will change that though.

Ask next time if they work for Telecom NZ or are they ringing on behalf of them

Sounds like one of the commission-based call centres that both Vodafone and Telecom employ. Their staff are overzealous as they have strict sign-up targets. Once they realise they won't make a sale they're quick to direct you elsewhere, regardless of your needs. This creates some confusion as often the call centre doesn't know every correct process to advise you of. In this case, they probably did the right thing to direct you to your helpdesk.

They've been sending Thomson modems to users on the Go plan without any upload speed change. I think I'd wait for more than something on a Vodafone forum before accepting that Go Large was going FS/FS.
