I'm helping a Spark customer set up xtra email their phone, but whatever I do I get an authentication error. I've tried 4 different apps, 3 different devices, including a Thunderbird client on a pc. All give authentication error. I even tried POP3, and still the same error. All port and SSL setting are exactly as they should be. Yet webmail access on any PC or Android tablet works fine. Online chat with Spark are adamant they don't ever block access. Could it be that they are anyway?

i doubt it, its likely a setting or password issue.

If webmail works fine, your issue is the configuration.

in the unlikely circumstance that an account was locked it would be security or billing related and thus webmail will not work too.

Absolutely 100% not a config issue. I've done literally 100s of these, and I've tripled checked the config each time on each of the setups I've done for this account.

Config issue can include client with old tls stack that isn't supported for example.... Don't just think about the settings you enter.

You’re certain that the devices that are attempting to connect to the email accounts are on a spark connection?

No, this is attempted on Android 10, Android 9, and up to date Win10. Not a stack issue.

These attempts to connect are NOT on a Spark connection.

IIRC you need to be on a Spark connection to access Xtra mail

That is totally untrue. Tested via Voda 4G.

My mistake, not sure what I'm thinking of then.

I've tried with K9, Gmail, Samsung Mail, Blue Mail, and Thunderbird(PC). Via Vodafone and 2d. Webmail works fine on all devices.

thanks for clarifying.  it could be however that they're not using the correct ssl options which i suspect may work find from within their network but not from outside.  would be worthwhile that the op tests this

Yet you can pay to retain your xtra email if you leave Spark.
