Setting up my parents new laptop.

They previously used webmail but I am setting up Outlook 365 for them.

POP3/SMTP is configured as per the Spark website but it's not connecting (password is good as we can sign into webmail).

pop3.xtra.co.nz:995

send.xtra.co.nz:465

SSL is enabled.

Anything else thats missing?

Don't use POP3 use IMAP settings.   Way more reliable

IMAP settings (SSL)

If you're setting up Xtra Mail on your phone or tablet, IMAP would be best for you.

  • Incoming Mail Server: imap.xtra.co.nz
  • Incoming port: 993 (SSL)
  • Outgoing server: send.xtra.co.nz
  • Outgoing port: 465 (SSL)
  • Username: Your full email address, for example, joe.bloggs@xtra.co.nz

Dont forget to tick the authentication box ( use the same as incoming server )

John

PS you should encourage your parents to move their email away from their ISP, to something like gmail or outlook.com

If they decide to move ISP in the future they could be charged to keep their email address, also there is no guarantee they will keep email running forever, look at Vodafone ( and others ) who have binned email/

I know enough to be dangerous
