currently you can not import a phone and connect to the Telecom network, each telecom mobile phone has a unique electronic serial number which telecom have a record of as well as every telecom mobile phone is tweaked to work on its current CDMA network, however after June 2009 it will be possible for you to import a WCDMA 850 handset and use it but it may not be supported for all the features that the handset may offer.

This is a GSM handset and Telecom don't have a GSM network so it can't be connected to Telecom. It can be connected to Vodafone however.

The Nokia 3230 is now an obsolete handset - it was released around 4 years ago so is a pretty old phone.

Thanks for the help. I realize that its an old phone, I was looking on trademe for a bargain. That sucks as telecom has the better texting plans. What about telstra clear, is their network GSM?

No still no go as Telstra Clear NZ piggy back on Telecoms CDMA network. If you are just looking on trademe for S/hand phone look in the telecom section. Word of advise, buy from a trader with at least a few trades with phones and good feedback also ask for the esn number then ring 123 and find if the esn is free and is not locked or barred

Thanks. Im looking for a phone that runs on the s60 software ( http://www.s60.com/life/ ) which is very mod capable ( http://www.instructables.com/id/HOW_TO_CONVERT_AN_OLD_CELL_PHONE_NOKIA_6600_INTO/ . It appears they are all on the GSM network, do you know any alternatives to the software?

Thanks.

There are no S60 handsets for CMDA networks. Your only current option for a CDMA smartphone would be a Windows Mobile device.

I hvae got one of those phones, and it will only work on Vodafone at the moment, but it should work on telecom next year. It is a nice little phone, with a nice operating system, but it is a little on the laggy side. But it has lots of features and you can install your own applications and software, so if you can get it cheap, it may not be a bad bargain.

Being that it is tri band GSM (900/1800/1900) and Telecom are rolling out a WCDMA network (850/2100) then NO it won't work on Telecom's network next year.
