As per https://www.spark.co.nz/outages/ there seems to be a pretty big Spark fibre outage across Mangere and Onehunga, since the early hours of Monday. No ETA on a fix on the Spark pages, and I wondered if anyone here has more info?

A pretty big Chorus fibre trunk was hit  / cut in Mangere and they're still working on replacing the damaged section.

Oh wow - as in, a physical cut? I'm guessing someone dug where they shouldn't have…

Do you know if it's a several-day fix, or might be sooner?

From a Facebook group I follow:

"Only about 1700 fibres to rejoin, 10m of ducting to replace which they need to excavate first. Haul multiple new fibres and start joining them all. And it is the main West Coast route for Chorus and Spark between Auckland and Hamilton."

Thanks for the info about this. Why can't Spark put more info on their outages page? Even if it's just to say sorry we don't know yet but it might take a few days. Or we're waiting for more info from Chorus?

Spark has added 20GB to my mobile data but it's not much use when 2G/3G/4G are all badly affected too. Was down to the old favourite H+ yesterday.

I sure hope the contractors did not try remove the raw fiber from that drill themselves

you have to be careful handling that stuff!

It's affecting one of our customers on CCL's Polaris cloud too, given quite a fair bit of traffic has had to be rerouted

Of course their first instinct was to blame Citrix..
