I am in Sydney today and my phone is connected to "MobileNet". It works ok for voice and I can see "E" showing there's an EDGE service available (no I can't connect to Telstra mobile network with this test handset).

It seems data connections are not allowed. Does Telecom have data roaming agreement with MobileNet at all? I can't find a company with this name - it seems to be a Telstra service.

Any more information?

MobileNet is Telstra's GSM EDGE network, and yes we do have a roaming agreement with Telstra for GSM as Telecom customers use Telstra when in Australia for Blackbery data roaming (it should work for you also through).

Ok, here is the thing:

Samsung Omnia with Vodafone SIM card: connects to 3G on Vodafone
Samsung Omnia with Telecom SIM card: connects to 3G on 3

No-yet named GPRS/EDGE only device with Vodafone SIM card: connects to GPRS on Vodafone
No-yet named GPRS/EDGE only device with Vodafone SIM card: EDGE icon but no connection

APN is "internet.telecom.co.nz" in both devices when using the Telecom SIM card.

Can you connect to Optus or Vodafone GSM for that mater using GPRS?

Sorry I can't remember if Telecom has a data roaming agreement with Vodafone AU or Optus?

I can connect to Vodafone, but still no data.

Interesting... I thought it could be the handset, but it works with the Vodafone SIM card. I will just carry the Omnia for now then and connect to 3 - a shame since I will have to pay for dara roaming on this one. Or I might just carry both handsets.

Ooops. Sorry my fault. The un-named Windows Mobile device was configure as "Cellular Line" instead of "Cellular GPRS". Fixed now, working...
