Hi there, I am kinda of stuck here.
I am with telecom and am on the Explorer broadband plan. When I changed I noticed I was able to go on ADSL2+.
I did the two checks to see if I was able to (line check and plan check) and everything was fine.
For some reason I am no on ADSL2+ and i'm on normal ADSL.

Does anyone have a clue why?
I checked on websites about my router and they say it is ADSL2+ compatable. It's a Lynksis Wag200G.
Also, did a speedtest in the router to confirm, got roughly 6mbps down 0.7mbps up.

Any help would be appreciated!

What is suggesting this? you said both your plan and your router say ADSL2+ so why don't you think you are?

Is that a throughput speed test or the actual line speed that the modem synchronises at?

What I'm saying is I should be on ADSL2+ because my line is ok and my plan is ok BUT I think my router (Linksys WAG200G may not be adsl2+ compatible even though I've looked in websites and they say it is.

those numbers indcate that your modem or line is not connecting at ADSL2+ I would suggest calling xtra 0800226698 ask asking them if your line is connected to an adsl2 exchange not unless someone here can verify that your exchange has been upgraded as this is a work in progress for telecom and NOT all exchanges have been done and some are not due to be done for a few years yet

In the web admin...

Change the ADSL mode:

Setup >> Basic Setup >> DSL Modulation >> Set it to "ADSL2+" (the default is multimode if you have problems and want to set it back) >> Save Settings

View the status of the connection:

Status >> DSL Connection >> Refresh

I have rang the help desk and he said "I should be experiencing adsl2+ speeds". The telecom wesbite also confirms I should be on adsl2+. The only other veriable is my router.

My line Attenuation is similar 15.5 up/28.5 down speed 945/11M the diff seems to be that my modem reports output power 12 dBm up/ 19.5dBm down. Your modem's reported power level seem odd unless it is reversed. If the DSLAM is only using 12dBm to you that may explain the low down speed.

First of all make sure all your telephone jackpoints your using are filtered, maybe even try isolate the modem and try another jackpoint and see if connect rate changes.  If you still get the same connect rate ring your ISP and get them to check your on the right power profile.

That's a check on the Filters...
I have rang Telecom helpdesk and they say "You should be experiencing ADSL2+" without really helping to solve why i'm not actually on it.

as discussed in other threads there a many reasons that effect download speeds, howvever that said you could ring xtra and ask them to do a "port reset" on your line, they may ask why but as long as you have previous case numbers from when you have rung before they may do it for you otherwise they will ask you to complete a download speed check on numerous days and times and record this data. Also to check you line for adsl go to: www.telecom.co.nz/adsltwoplus

Lastly telecom do not guarrantee speed and ADSL2 is not promoted as a boost in speed by telecom, the official line is

With ADSL2+, theoretically, customers should experience better performance if:

  • They live within the 2km radius of an ADLS2+ exchange or are connected to an ADSL2+ cabinet
  • They are on a ADSL2+ compatible plan (i.e. all plans that are both Full Speed upload and Full Speed download)
  • They have an ADSL2+ compatible modem; all Telecom supplied modems provided
from October 2007 onwards are compatible (Thomson / 2wire)

Notice "theoretical" and "should"

Port resets aren't necessary on the newer equipment (ISAM/ASAMs) and even so they won't help with a connect rate or throughput issue. Power cycling the modem has the same effect as a port reset in these cases.

What the OP needs to do check whether he's in a ADSL2+ capable area and if so needs to isolate as per this guide to make sure his CPE isn't having a detrimental effect on his connect rates.
